Running Zwift on iPhone not producing resistance

I’ve tried twice to run Zwift on my iPhone and while the game is connected and I’m moving, the resistance is off. It’s not that there is no resistance but I can tell that it’s not the right resistance. My OS is up to date. Connecting via Bluetooth. Nothing else is running on Bluetooth at the time. I’m not sure how to remedy this. Any suggestions.

Do you see the trainer paired for Resistance on the pairing screen?

Yes I see Resistance paired.

Which model of trainer are you using and are you using virtual shifting with some kind of Zwift controllers? If you’re using virtual shifting in a free ride (not workout) do you see a gear indicator on the HUD?

Hello Paul. I have a Wahoo Power V6. No controllers and no shifting. I’ve never run Zwift on my phone and it’s not easy. For ex, I have to shut down my phone after Zwift because it’s impossible to swipe up to close it. Maybe it’s not really meant for the iPhone?

You should be able to force quit the app on the phone like any other app. You definitely need to make sure it’s not running on two devices at the same time because only one thing can control the trainer at once. Shutting down the phone should work as well though you may also need to unplug the trainer and plug it back in. That would be a good additional troubleshooting step to take. Although your trainer (which is very nice) can support multiple Bluetooth connections, you still need to make sure only one of them is trying to control the trainer.

Zwift has this document about force closing the app: Force Closing Zwift

Only the Zwift app connects to Bluetooth. And I don’t open Zwift on my Mac if I’m running it on my phone. So how should I check that nothing else is connecting to Bluetooth that I’m not aware of. When Zwifting with the phone, I don’t know what else uses Bluetooth. All I see that is registered with Bluetooth on my phone are a variety of headphones and my Garmin InReach but all are reading as not connected.

I’ve read the force closing Zwift but what Ive found is if you can’t minimize the screen it won’t swipe up. This has happened when I watch Netflix on my phone… if I don’t minimize it first it won’t swipe up. Maybe because it fills the whole screen?

Strange I just tried it on my iPhone 15 running iOS 26 and I was able to swipe up and close the app. Tried it a couple times and it worked OK. When the app is not running on the Mac it should not conflict with running it on the phone.

Other basic things you could look at:

  1. The trainer firmware https://support.wahoofitness.com/hc/en-us/articles/13354735432850-How-to-Update-Firmware-on-KICKR-trainers-BIKEs-and-RUN
  2. Pairing the trainer via WiFi instead of Bluetooth https://support.wahoofitness.com/hc/en-us/articles/9211851310738-Using-Wi-Fi-with-a-KICKR-trainer-BIKE-or-RUN

You could also talk to Wahoo support to see if they think there is anything wrong with the unit.

Thanks very much for the references. I’ll check them out. and I’ll keep on trying to swipe up. When you did it, did it fill your whole screen? I’m assuming yes.

No problem swiping up on Iphone with iOS 26.4.2 with Zwift fullscreen. Make sure you hold your phone in landscape orientation and swipe from the bottom of the Zwift screen.

Didn’t realize I had to stay in landscape. I’ll try that. Thank you
