Resistance/wattage seems off on Kickr Core 2

I’ve recently changed trainer from Saris H3 to Kickr Core 2 with Zwift Cog and I’ve found that the resistance seems too high for the wattage reading. Oddly, the resistance feels similar to what I was used to with the Saris but the wattage reading is maybe 10 to 15% lower. Both the Wahoo app and the Zwift app are updated. I’ve looked through all the forums and on Reddit and this seems to have been a problem in the past but I can’t see if a solution was found. Is this likely to be a hardware issue or a software issue?

May need to do some calibrations on your new Core v2.

  1. Start a Zwift ride, spin up the trainer and then coast for 5s, repeat about 3 times and see how the wattage looks.

  2. If it still seems off, go into your wahoo app and connect to the trainer (will probably need to unplug it and re-plug to get pairing mode going) and then do a factory spin down calibration and see what the power looks like.

And random question, did your trainer difficulty setting change when you switched trainers? Might explain the difference in wattage for same resistance “feel”.

Cheers

The Saris H3 has known issues for high readings, especially when aging

You need access to a power meter in order to understand which trainer is more accurate.

Hi,

Thanks for the tip. Step one worked I think, along with a cocktail of other things. What I did was delete and reinstall both the Zwift and Wahoo apps just to reset all the tinkering in the settings I’d done previously. Then I changed the gear setting on the Zwift cog from Mixed Terrain to All rounder. Then I tried your trick of three mini spindowns in game and poof, the readings went back up to what I’d been used to seeing. Marvellous.
