Resistance on Kickr v5 during a ZRL Race

I just started using a Kickr over the weekend.Last evening I was doing the ZRL race up the Volcano Climb. I have my trainer difficulty on Zwift set to about 40% maybe a bit less. Last night on the climbs, it felt like the difficulty was a 100%. Even on the flats it seemed extremely difficult to hold a high cadence. I was wondering if there are any recommendations to fix this. I was spit out of the back at the bottom of the climb. Thanks in advance…Mike
