We all know it’s not healthy to race daily without recovery days mixed in. But my racing score drops when I take an intentional easy ride. Any way to avoid this? How do others handle it?
Easiest way is to do your easy rides in non-race.
Group rides, solo free rides, pace partner. There are all sorts of options for rides that won’t drop your racing score.
Hi @David_Kindler_MitB, welcome to the Forums! I’m Francisco from Zwift Support.
It’s definitely a balancing act when it comes to managing racing and recovery, and it’s important to give your body time to rest, especially after intense efforts. You’re right that racing daily without recovery can lead to burnout, and we appreciate you sharing this concern.
As the other Zwifter mentioned, doing your easy rides in non-race formats—such as group rides, solo free rides, or with pace partners—can help you maintain a more relaxed pace without those efforts being categorized as races. While recovery rides should ideally not impact your racing score, variations could occur depending on the specific factors affecting your score (e.g., changes in effort levels, watt output, etc.).
I’d recommend checking out the links provided, including Zwift Insider and Zwift Support FAQs, for a detailed breakdown of how racing scores are calculated. These resources might help provide further insights into what influences your score and how to manage it while incorporating recovery.
That is not correct. Furthermore, my personal score only changes if I do less watts over a longer period of time. This is the case if you don’t take part in races at all.
