QZ App & Virtual Shifting

Sent, I suggest to remove your personal information from here now

Great work. You singlehandedly smoked the entire e-racing. I am supporting the VS for anyone and would use it if it was not forbidden for my races.
But are these power scaling and conversion to power functions were really necessary :))
That also explains the sheer drop in zpower riders and the absolutely brutal level compared to 2-3 years ago. Once some people start scaling up “to match in game speed to their effort” others follow to keep up and soon you will need to add a bigger scaling bar to the app.
Still, I see this as a positive development and a good lesson to platforms.

Who use watt gain with a higher value of 1 is reported over Bluetooth, in the next versions of qz, so it would not be an issue.

Anyway qz is not the issue and you know. A lot of cheater are using other methods to do so.

These settings are made to help everyone to adjust wattage to their bikes

I’m personally using watt gain of 0.75 to my bike to decrease the wattage

I’m competing only with myself

That’s not very fair at all.
Accusing Roberto of smoking E- racing ìs uncalled for.
It’s people using it for such that are the issue. And any of the other countless ways to cheat in races.
QZ helps thousands of users to connect their dumb equipment to Zwift and has opened up virtual shifting to those unable to get it natively. Roberto has covered the reasons why such a setting exists.

99% of users of QZ have no interest in using it for immoral reasons.
And the 1% are actually detectable anyway so would have no adverse effects on results.

Slow down, nobody is accusing anybody.
Now I will start getting 400 emails a day. Lol.
If Roberto has not done it somebody else would anyway.
This type of scalers existed for a long time. Most pms have them anyway.
I agree it is the people.
Did I already said I like the app and support it even though I do not use it. Right.

I guess it is up to platforms to deal with this. They will take action and make sure of the fair play as always.

Stuart, to be completely fair—Roberto has taken Virtual Shifting to a whole new level, surpassing what Wahoo has done and what Zwift has avoided. QZ’s implementation of virtual shifting via DirCom is a game-changer, giving you full control over the virtual chainrings and cassettes. For me, that’s huge. I have zero interest in dealing with Bluetooth, and QZ eliminates that hassle entirely. Roberto has truly nailed this feature.

Hello Jason!

Were you able to setup QZ App and Virtual Shifting with your Neo 2T? I am also owner of Neo2T and I really like the road-feel and all those special features that Neo2T has such as downhill simulation, gravel, wood floors etcetera. Were you able to have Virtual shifting and these ride feeling at same time without sacrificing them? How accurate is the virtual shifting considering QZ is a 3rd party app?
Overall, if you could please share your experience with me I’ll really appreciate it…I am not willing to change my Neo2T for a Wahoo not because of the price but just because Neo2T magnets and ride-feel are just amazing for not mentioning that Neo2T does not need any tenis ball for motion as it has slight motion.

Thanks in advance.

I can’t comment on Tacx since I’m a Wahoo user, but Qz Virtual Shifting is far superior to Wahoo’s. Unfortunately, my KICKR V5 has just started showing serious signs of giving up, so I reluctantly had to pick up a V6—not that I care about its native virtual shifting anyway, so I’m sticking with Qz. I’ve been using Direct Connect from the start, and Qz allows you to use it alongside Virtual Shifting. Personally, I’d never switch to a wireless option if I can avoid it.

When usinz QZ VS, are you able to see the Gears in the Zwift screen next to the power? Or it won’t be shown like when Virtual Shifting is done via Zwift itself instead of QZ Virtual Shifting?

Yes exactly the same, and I am using the Zwift Play…. Look at my screenshot earlier in this post.

Hi Xavier, I’ve just received my Zwift Ride and I also have a bike with Zwift Play.

I have a Tacx Neo 2T for the ZR. And a Kickr 5 for the bike/ZP (at my cabin).

I have ordred, but not received a Kickr 6, which I intended to use with the Zwift Ride.

But the QZ app can give me virtual shifting on both?! And it will work with the controllers? Then I could return the Kickr 6. I really don’t won’t to spend that money unless I have to!

Do you have a set up guide?

Hey @Gjermund_Torp

I’ve been using the QZ app for a while now—first with a Kickr v5 and now with a Kickr v6. Personally, I keep things simple: I pair the Kickr or power meters directly to Zwift and use the QZ app solely for resistance control and virtual shifting. As others have said, the app is a bit of a Swiss Army knife “you could overthink it”, but it works really well. I actually upgraded to the Kickr v6 because my v5 died, but I’ve been a bit disappointed with Wahoo’s implementation of virtual shifting (there are plenty of discussions out there on that). That’s why I’m still sticking with QZ.

If you need any help, I can give me the setup that works for me.

Thanks! The Tacx Neo2t doesn’t broadcast Bluetooth signals, and support only one connection, so it’s not possible to let one app (QZ, XERT, …) use controllable and let power and cadence run Zwift.
Then I guess Neo2T won’t work with the QZ app? In that case I will use my Kickr V5 and live without virtual shifting while Zwifting at my cabin.

You find the setup to be stable?

??? It does - or it’s time to contact Garmin.

Super! I meant broadcast as in everybody can connect. Taxc Neo2T only allows one «channel», so with for example the XERT app it’s not working letting XERT control the trainer for smart (curved) intervals, and sending power, cadence to AppleTV for Zwift. But it seems that this is more an XERT problem and that the QZ app sends Bluetooth in correct FTMS profile. I bought the app yesterday and will try ZwiftRide with Tacx Neo2T and QZ today!

I haven’t used XERT myself, so I can’t speak to how it integrates.
By the way, which version of QZ are you running? I’m on 2.18 (1061). Keeping it updated is key if virtual shifting is your main priority.

Just downloaded it. Says 2.17. How to upgrade?

I just DM you on how to get the latest Beta.
