Pack Dynamics 5 discussion

PD5 is still bad, any update on when you’re planning to fix it @Jon ?

I heard the draft percentage increased by 2% recently, i think they measured it using sauce and noticed a difference this week.

Probably but Sauce doesnt measure percentage but total power savings. Also according to this Zwift employee What is the new overtaking mechanism - #3 by Malcolm_Edwards they have made changes to cda and they are trying to reduce sticky draft which is a good thing.

So here are there any changes with the update, or will we just continue to have a broken pd5 for what two months now?

Just roll it back ffs

Yesterday i did 2 hours of robopacer and Zwift spin and i have noticed that now with steering you can go thought gaps that open not like before where it felt like there were invisible walls and also it feels way better overall like less sticky.

Since ZwiftGames has seemingly disabled steering as well as braking, once you’re dumped in the gutter you have a lot of work to do, usually by easing a touch to drop in at the back insteadmof part way down. Just makes for an even harder interval session.

I’ve had it. This is ridiculous! Shoved multiple times per ride, gaps randomly opening despite everyone pushing same power, sticky draft, auto braking, momentum issues. This is ■■■■, and I have not seen anyone happy about the changes.

Worse, this John guy, who is responsible for these changes as far as I can tell, couldn’t be arsed to read this very thread for over a month despite it being pretty much stickied at the top of this board. He comes in pretentiously “someone told me about this thread” and has ghosted once again.

ZG doesnt have PD5 on only group rides, watopia and makuri

I didn’t say it did. It warns you at the start about disabled braking, but it should really warn about disabled steering. That undoubtedly affects more people (most with steering willd have disabled braking anyway). Whether or not PD5 is running, some of the same negatives are present and it’s not as quick to move you back into the bunch as it used to be, say 6 months ago.

It warns about disabled steering, too. The reason for disabling it is kinda nebulous but that’s how ZHQ chose to run. PD5 doesn’t have much influence, if any in ZG. Now The Big Spin, that’s a hot mess. I have a video somewhere of the 100th place blob looking like a rugby scrum. Really not a good look for what is supposed to be Zwift’s premier Group Ride.

I will say the Spin is a good place to hear whining about all kinda Zwifty things: Coffee breaks are probably number one. Late joiners. People racing in a group ride. Etc, etc, etc. Should we call a Waambulance? Waitaminnit! That’s like here in the forum!

Like this?

If only there were collisions in Zwift Pack Dynamics, this lot would all be on the ground.

No, the riders were at right angles to one another, bouncing off each other. It was the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen in Zwift and there’ve been a few stupid looking things in 5 years of Zwiftin’.

I’ll hafta rummage around and see if I can find it.

I’ve seen a few instances of riders at the edge riding at 45º angles to the direction of travel.

Unfortunately it seems we have radio silence again regarding these changes.

Posted this in the ZRS thread too:
One of the things to remember here: This forum is populated by a very small subset of Zwift users. I imagine it’s on the order of <1.0%. None of my IRL friends ever go on here and only a two or three of my virtuals, out of a coupla hundred admit to trolling these halls. That may be why we get no traction with ZHQ with our griping and “suggestions”. Ask around. I’ll bet we all have the same level of forum participation from our friends and acquaintances.

The answer is simple, Zwift never cares, you will see the broke crap for the next couple of years.

I bet you are using a Wahoo Kickr or Kickr Bike. Zwift hates wahoo that’s why the screw all their users.

Yeah, I’m usually not one to vent like this, but I think I (and the Zwift community) have been patient and voiced complaints for long enough upon deaf ears. Plus, I doubt that Jon is even following this thread.

Thank God that racing doesn’t use PD5. But as mentioned above, the big spin is a ■■■■ show

Comparatively pretty good compared to the “riders constantly angled into the pack” bug.

If it doesn’t then it should, because it will make racing more exciting.

The racing crowd should get equal opportunity to experience it in their races. :cowboy_hat_face:

I’ve been doing more races lately which means PD4.1.1 and it’s been so refreshing to know how packs are going to move and react, rather than randomly splitting up, pushing people out into the wind, underpredictable sticky draft, etc.
