Yes, try pairing them and I think you will notice a difference, in a good way. You don’t have to touch them.
yes this works great and you can pick them up as a controller for menus if needed.
How do you know that PD5 is on for races? As far as i know there hasnt been any update and also game files dont have any update since 1.88
PD5 is not a game file update, it’s a feature flag that they can change between updates. as far as I know
I’m not sure about this but you might wish to test these events?
As far as i know there are game files where they can edit whether to turn it on or off for worlds and for races or group rides its on data files and at the moment pd5 is only on for group rides
All “PD’s” are programmed in game files, sure.
But server side checks are the deciding factor of what’s used, which is not something “we” the average user can see.
We only know because as it stands the two active PD’s in use are 4.1+ and 5
4.1 is obvious because when you enable steering you can go through other users (see below), and the draft benefit is huge when the number of users ‘intersecting’ increases.
5 is obvious because groups split apart on the far sides of the roads for an unknown reason.
PD4.1 being live on this week’s TTT:
There is a noticeable difference in pack dynamics between PD4 and PD5. I knew within 1 minute of my race that it was PD5. And my teammate’s response to what happened in his TTT race was obvious that it was PD5.
Big ol’ thread. Just chiming in to say that with Play controllers paired rolling around on Tempus with the B Jacques bot, if you don’t get bullied over to the side by someone behind you approximately once every 5km your experience is different than mine. Because that’s about how often it happens to me - my avatar is the least-competent drafter I’ve ever seen, I’m frequently required to give a hard steering input to get back behind the bulk of the group. Strangest “drafting” behavior I’ve seen in Zwift
This is also me!
It feels - without data - that the rider behind creates a little draft in front of them like a bow wave. And if that hunch is correct then it seems like sometimes that push-draft is stronger than the tail draft from the front, so draft seeking doesn’t go for the tail it is satisfied with the bow wave from behind. Same time, rider behind is seeking your tail draft which pushes you farther out as they move.
If that’s the case seems like the fix would be to never seek draft that wasn’t from in front
Or it’s sunspots
I think that is a good way to describe the experience.
My working assumption is that each rider is getting a draft value from a specific rider not the pack. Meaning;
- rider A is attached to rider B’s draft and closes in on them, rider C is between them and gets bumped as rider A closes on rider B.
- Rider A is accelerating in a group relative to rider B, they break the draft and bump around (outward) pushing other riders out.
- Rider A is decelerating from drafting B. As the draft breaks they move backwards until they start draft rider C. As they lose draft they bump others, then they adjust into rider Cs line bumping people.
So your experience as rider A is mostly sensible, with you moving around in the draft as you change speed relative to someone BUT you also don’t go for the open gaps and sometimes just barge people.
Your experience when someone is else rider A is annoying, because you are being moved around because of them with no option to hold your ground. At times this is compounded by multiple riders bullying you to the side. At times there are recursive loops where a bumped rider further bumps.
That’s either insightful or really dumb and I can’t decide.
I’ve never seen what one of our riders is experiencing right now and has been the entire ride.
Not only is his rider not falling into draft; he’s pushing people away from him actively. I don’t know how to describe it any other way, it’s wild.
No steering by the way.
These aren’t just random selected screenshots, I’ve been watching him the entire ride, now 45 minutes in, and it’s been like this since the start.
@shooj sorry not sure who else to ping.
But as a bug report; this rider states he was on the hand cycle.
I’ll send an email as well.
