Norton Portal Bug

I have noticed a number of riders that have ridden Norton climb.
On Strava, it shows the base of Norton climb as the Cauberg climb overlayed over Norton.

I’m not sure if this is the only mixed climb.
Nothing unusual shows up in Zwift, only on Strava.

I can post some results or go to Strava and check a few of the recent rides on Norton.

Only the three times in May have this overlap. (2 on Men’s top ten and 1 listed on women’s)

@Zee_Kryder

I’ve asked the team here. Standing by for someone who might know.

Thanks for checking on that.
Someone told me they set the record on the Cauberg riding Norton in May.
No fault of theirs obviously

@Eric-Schlange-ZI manages the Strava segments and might have insight

It’s a known issue. Nothing I can do to fix it, as the GPS coordinates of the two climbs line up. Zwift needs to change it on their end in order to separate them. Whether or not they’ll do that… I don’t know!

It seems it is a lot easier to do the base of Norton than the climb of Cauberg.
I don’t see how they line up.
Isn’t the height different? It is at least 10 or 20 meters less climbing in that 800 meter long climb. Plus, Strava is giving them credit for a faster version of Cauberg.
I don’t understand what “gps lines up”
I thought one was in Netherlands and one is Australia.
Why did it work in January but doesn’t work in May?

Zwift GPS are not real! Or exactly - they are real coordinates, but Watopia is somewhere in the Santa Cruz Islands, France is in New Caledonia, etc.
Look at the maps in Strava, or import your rides in Google Earth.

So are all 48 other climbs.
This only happens with Norton. Also , both France and Watopia.

Elevation doesn’t matter to Strava when it comes to matching up segments. They just care that the GPS coordinates (like, the maps as seen from above) overlay each other within a certain margin of error.

The Cauberg basically lays on top of the start of Norton Summit, as seen from above. So if you ride Norton Summit in France, it’ll also give you credit for the Cauberg segment in France. (Or the same goes for Watopia.)

The simple solution, I think, is for Zwift to just put a slight turn into the start of the Norton Summit or Cauberg climbs. Then the roads won’t line up. They’ll need to check this on an ongoing basis, though, so future climbs don’t overlay on each other. Really only applies to super short climbs…

@Eric_Schlange_ZwftIn So is that why today it says Cauberg in the schedule but when entering Zwift its the hardknot pass?

Yup. Reached out to Zwift today and they told me they changed the schedule due to this issue.

The Cauberg had an issue with riders getting flagged for power. If your power is near max and you use one or two feathers, the watts per kilogram triggers a power warning and the section will not count on Zwift. I think some people call it the cone of shame.

Maybe put the Cauberg on top of Norton, that is, after the peak.:squinting_face_with_tongue:
