Noisy Dare2Ride Fuego trainer, help with troubleshoot

Hi! Some days ago my Dare2Ride Fuego 1.0 (‘oem’ of Jetblack Volt, as far as I know) started making a strange noise, and it got worse and worse. The trainer has +2 yrs and about 160hrs on it, and (until now) I only cleaned the outside and the freehub, never opened it, since it always worked quietly as it was supposed to.

I’m trying to post the link to the video but can’t… so here it is separated: imgur. com/ hqJfwoL

I’ve opened it, cleaned it, regreased it, but the noise continues. I wanted to loosen the belt to remove the flywheel and properly get to the bearings, but I’m not sure how to do it on this spring mechanism. Tried searching for servicing instructions for the JB Volt or Dare2Ride models, to no success.

If anyone can shine some light on things to try, I’d appreciate very much!
The warranty is off, so I wanted to try to fix it by myself before sending the trainer somewhere, which could take some weeks before getting back.

Diagnosing by noise is never easy, but I’d take a look at the belt. That video didn’t sound like bearings to me so much as a worn belt. Look for grooving, uneven wear, etc. That bottom pulley in the pic looks like it has grooves in it. If the belt’s grooves aren’t matching up, are too worn, etc, you could get a noise from that.

Hi @Stefano_Bellote! Welcome to the forums! I’m Francisco from Zwift Support.

Sorry to hear about the noise coming from your Dare2Ride Fuego 1.0—it’s never fun when a trainer starts acting up, especially after some good use.

It sounds like you’ve already done some great troubleshooting by cleaning and regreasing it, I’d suggest ideas for isolation:

  1. Check the Belt Tension: Sometimes the belt can become too tight or loose over time, which can cause noise. You mentioned trying to loosen it, so double-checking that it’s correctly tensioned is a good idea. For specific instructions on loosening the belt and accessing the flywheel, I couldn’t find an official manual available, but you could try looking for any similar models like the JetBlack Volt and refer to those for guidance. The mechanism should be similar.
  2. Bearings & Flywheel: If you haven’t yet accessed the bearings, the noise could be coming from there. You might need to remove the flywheel completely, but if the spring mechanism is giving you trouble, be careful not to damage any internal parts when loosening it. Maybe a bike shop would be ideal.
  3. Lubrication: After opening it up, check for any areas that may need more lubrication, particularly around the flywheel and bearings. A dry bearing or component could be the cause of the noise.

If you’re still not able to resolve it on your own, it might be worth reaching out to Dare2Ride or JetBlack’s customer support for further advice.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes! Thanks, Tom for your comments and willingness to help!
