No resistance on start - resistance kicks in after +-25s

Since the most recent update I have the issue that there’s no resistance. Only when I reconnect (go into Pairing menu, disconnect smart trainer, and reconnect) the trainer, the resistance kicks in.

I believe this is a bug that is introduced since the last update.

Running Zwift on Windows 11, with Wahoo KICKR V6 (Direct Connect over WiFi)

@klavan

When’s the last time you rebooted your WiFi router? Flaky connection over Direct Connect are often solved when you power off / on your router, PC, and trainer to reset all of them on your local network.

@shooj its nothing related to my network. network is perfectly fine. WiFi AP is 2m away from kickr.

When joining a pace partner, I’ve noticed the resistance kicks in after 10-20s. The delay makes it hard to keep up with the group as it’s stuck in gear 5 for a while.

that sounds like the autocalibration, could it be that?

To be clear, Shuji was talking about rebooting your router as a potential solution, not about the proximity of your router to your Zwift setup. If nothing else, it’s a free and easy thing to try. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t, but if it doesn’t you could rule it out. (It’s good practice to reboot the router every so often, anyway, so you’d get that out of the way.)

For what it’s worth. I’ve rebooted the router, which I already did. This surely isn’t caused by my network.

@shooj I’ve noticed that the resistance only kicks in after 25-30 seconds, even when shifting to a higher gear, nothing changes. Seems to me that this is related to Zwift Virtual Shifting.

Not everytime I’m starting a ride… virtual shifting just doesn’t provide any resistance for the first 25 seconds. Autocalibration is happening when coasting, I’m pedalling and just starting a ride.

@shooj update, doesn’t matter if it’s with a pace partner or not. It’s every time I’m starting a ride, resistance doesn’t kick in for the first 25 seconds.

Ok - let’s eliminate other possibilities.

  1. In the Pairing Screen - try connecting all trainer signals over Bluetooth instead of WiFi. With the new icons next to the Power / Resistance / Controller / Cadence signals, it’s easy to see the connection type.

  2. If Bluetooth doesn’t improve things - next type to try is a bridged connection using the Zwift Companion app. Here’s how.

Each of these pairing methods has a different transport mechanism. Let’s see if they’re different (or not) so we can rule out possibilities there.

@shooj i don’t want to use Bluetooth, that’s not an option as the Race Mode isn’t available. Only when using direct connect over WiFi or Ethernet using the Wahoo direct connect adapter

You should test it on Bluetooth, maybe the dir con adapter is the issue?

With recent firmware, the V6 supports race mode when paired via Bluetooth

Bluetooth isn’t reliable. I never had this kind of issue with direct connect. It’s only started since one of the latest zwift updates.

At least play along for a it, instead of dismissing everything. Part of troubleshooting/problem solving is testing the different options, instead of just saying no.

I’m not going to use Bluetooth, not going down that road again. Direct connect has been solid for me, but, Zwift is known for introducing bugs during every release. I repeat, never experienced an issue like that since one of the latest updates.

ok then. good luck!

If I had a dollar for everytime someone said that and it turned out to be untrue, I’d be able to retire early

Zwift updates quite often actually, so odds are that whenever you might actually run into a problem it will likely be coincident that yes, it’ll be after the latest Zwift update.

@shooj

I’ve tested the same with Bluetooth. Same behavior is experienced. The resistance kicks in only 25s after starting the ride.

It’s not related to dircon, not related to bluetooth, it’s a Zwift issue imo.

Does the resistance work fine if you try riding in another app?
