My Zwift is an helicopter

Hi, since a few weeks my Zwift hub makes a lot of noises like an helicopter when I ride. My neighbours at the first floor (I’m at the third floor!) told me he thought an helicopter was in his bedroom! I changed the bike and the same… the noice is still here when I stop cycling (coasting), therefore I guess it’s not the bike, chain or pedal or etc… but in the Zwift itself. Does someone had the same problem?

Thank you in advance.

Best

Serge

Possibly the bearings have failed. Assuming the trainer is out of warranty and you don’t have any extended warranty coverage for it (eg, through your credit card issuer) your choices are either to try to repair it or bin it. I don’t think Zwift offers any parts for the trainer but bearings and belts are standard parts that can be sourced from industrial or automotive suppliers. I’ve never seen any service guides for the Zwift Hub.

Thanks for your answer. Yes indeed my trainer is out of warranty (3 years old… which is not so old…). I can try open it and check the bearings but how to open it… any videos or users manual available somewhere? Best

I haven’t seen any docs or videos about repairing it but would love to hear if you find any. Could also check with bike shops to see if they are game for it.

Hi @Serge_Marin Welcome to the forums. This is Haziel from Zwift Support.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I can imagine how this noise is affecting you while riding. You’ve already done a great job troubleshooting by swapping bikes, so it makes sense to look deeper into the Hub itself.

We actually have a helpful support article called Zwift Hub is Making Noise that walks through all the basics and common causes of this issue, along with steps you can take to reduce or resolve the sound. I’d recommend starting there before going to a bike shop.

If you go through those steps and the noise persists, feel free to contact us. We can investigate deeper and provide you with possible solutions.

Hi Haziel, I went through the basics and common causes (Zwift hub is making noise), and still the same « helicopter noice ». It seems that this noice comes from inside the trainer. So, I’m going to « contact us » I mean you…

If the noise is there when you are coasting, it is not the Zwift Cog. Most likely the trainer, as already suggested.

Edit: fixed the hub to cog

The Zwift Hub is a trainer

Sorry, meant to write Cog.

Still no news from Zwift and I’m still biking on my helicopter… except that I can’t fly unfortunately

Unless you are willing to take it apart I expect you will need to buy a trainer. I doubt the noise is coming from the freehub, which is the only easily replaceable part that Zwift offers.
