My phone "isn't compatible" with the Zwift Companion

The ipod, ipad, and Android phone I used to try to connect to Zwift Companion were all “incompatible.”  How new do these devices have to be in order for the Companion to work?  After buying a new gaming PC laptop specifically for Zwift–and then committing to buy a smart control trainer–I really hope I don’t have to buy a new phone also (but if I do, what kind should I get?).  This would be the most expensive $15 per month I’ve ever spent…though it really is fun.  Thank you for any guidance.

I saw this list, but it doesn’t seem to be the most updated list since there are no Android things here.  FWIW, I have a mac desktop and a PC laptop, so I could go either way with a phone.  And if I go with a 5s or 6, will that be incompatible sooner than if I purchased a 7 or 8?  Thank you.      –>Requires iOS 9.0 or later. Thanks for writing in! The only requirement for Zwift Companion is iOS 9.0 or later. And it’s compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. For Android, version 4.4 and up is required. Feel free to write in if you have any more questions. :)
