Must not change trainer in race

While I was racing Kiss 100 suddenly a message appeared that I must not change the connected hardware while in the race.

I hadn’t entered the connection screen, I hadn’t touched the mouse or keyboard either. It appeared out of nowhere and of course my race stopped.

Only thing I can imagine is that the BT connection to the Kickrbike broke and in the background it connected via ANT+

A very big frustration, as I was doing quite well.

You’re correct that this is caused when the trainer disconnects and you try to reconnect it differently or switch to a different power source, when the event has hardware enforcement enabled. The only solution is to work on the root problem of the disconnection. If you upload a log file to zwiftalizer.com it will visualize the disconnections for you.

If the Kickr Bike is a V2 model you could try using WiFi pairing. The V1 model cannot.

Thanks Paul!

I get that I must not change the power source. But the message occurred out of the blue. So, it wasn’t that I changed the power source. This simply must not happen on its own.

My guess is if you analyze the logs you will see a Bluetooth disconnect, and your theory about it reconnecting via ANT+ seems plausible. If the ANT+ adapter hadn’t been present you probably would have seen a different message saying that a power meter has to be paired and giving you 60 seconds before ejecting you from the event. There can be many reasons for a Bluetooth disconnection. In some PCs with a built-in Bluetooth interface, the antenna is crap or it is too close to other wireless transmitters near the same frequency. Personally I run Zwift on Windows 10 with a TP-Link UB400 USB adapter (Bluetooth version 4.0) on a 2m extension cable, positioned under the bike. This is solid for me.
