More courses...but why

Seems like the Zwift creators are continually knocking out new courses. But why? The redundancy facter is getting ridiculous and they’re ending up in the wrong place. For example, Electric Break in Makuri Island looks like it wandered over from a futuristic, dystopian city.

How about posting a month-long poll where riders can rate what they like and dislike about each route? Maybe that will give designers some better direction.

I think new routes are great, after you have been on Zwift for a few years you welcome new scenery and route completion badges.

They should however, probably spend a bit more time fixing up the glaring errors in the graphics that jump out at you all the time before moving onto a lot of new stuff but I suspect there are limits in the current graphics generation they are using that’s starting to hold them back in 2025. The day they move to a true 4K 2160p setup option, it will be amazing.

Maybe Zwift should create a route creator so we can create our own routes….

Zwift’s strength in comparison to their competitors is in the social aspect of the platform, so I’m not sure they would want to lean into a solo route creator unless that somehow has a social aspect to it.

What’s social about indoor riding? I ride to maintain fitness and I want/need certain routes for certain goals

Yeah, the thing that differentiates Zwift from an app like Rouvy is the amount of people on it.

For me it’s the fact that you can make your own route instead of riding in a pre-shot video with no option to make turns. Being able to create routes before riding just makes it a bit easier that way you don’t have to remember the turns

When you’re indoor riding in a world alongside loads of other real people, then there are plenty of social aspects. If you’re not interested in them, that’s fine, but it’s certainly one of the key features of Zwift.

So you’re saying route in the Zwift sense, a series of pre-defined turns on an existing zwift world.

Not like a gps route create, magic roads sort of thing.

Yeah, it would be nice to be able to do that.

Yes, certain areas I just don’t like and prefer to avoid, some areas I want to avoid or visit depending on my goal. That way you could create structured workouts but free ride them

Quite right, I deliberately choose the routes with the least amount of huge groups, which is generally a big wall of a climb where I’m left alone. I don’t say anything much at all, I’m in it for the same reasons as you - usually don’t have enough energy left to chat.

I would love to have a solo route creator where I can create myself the climbs I have been wanting to have on Zwift for years and years. And the climb portals aren’t that, one because you cannot choose the route you want on them (locked to the schedule) and two I doubt the accuracy of some of them (a few of them I have ridden IRL).

The social argument loses some meaning when half the people say not a single word, and some grumble at others for daring to say hello to someone else. For example a couple of people are saying hi and being friendly and someone is like “take it offline”, etc.

And the epic explosion on a morning ride when a couple of folks were discussing cakes…

Zwift is definitely well ahead of its rivals in that department, I tried rouvy for 1 month a few years ago and over the course of 10 to 15 workouts I saw at most 20 other cyclists..the app itself worked fine but there was certainly a feeling of solitude that wasn’t pleasant.

Have you tried Roadcaptain for Zwift? It used to be mentioned more often, so I’m not sure the app developer is keeping up maintenance on it.

Use the game however you want, but Zwift is successful precisely because it is social. Compared to all the other apps, that’s what makes it the best. It doesn’t have the very best features for workouts or training plans or racing or simulating your favorite course, but it is #1 for the social aspect and it would be a disaster if they moved away from that focus.

My observation is that Zwift keeps its own counsel on road and world creation. Roads and worlds are a topic that every single user has strong opinions, which means there is a cacophony of contradictory suggestions which can’t all be satisfied so most of them are just noise.

I just want to build a route so I don’t need to steer in game, no need for custom roads, just navigate the existing one more efficiently

Btw I do really enjoy the people sprinting past.me when I am doing z1/2 only to come to a halt a few meters further

Never heard of it but yeah that’s what I wanted. Would be nice to have an official version integrated into zwift

electric break is a good route. something different to the normal routes.

Did we need it probably not and would be nice if we could create more custom routes for events. A route builder like roadcaptain would be an excellent feature.
