Hi alll
Been having this issue, not sure if it’s real vs a program glitch? calibration?. Been using the Ride with Kickr Core for a couple of months. Doing mostly custom trainings, My FTP is 212. My speed ranges from say 16 to 45 MPH at 110 to 280 watts (1.3-2.4 w/kg). The problem I see is that every now and then I have this random stretches during my sessions (usually uphill, I think) were speed suddenly drops to 2-4 mph. My Garmin computer (1050 Edge) is also paired with the Kickr and it shows a reasonable speed (16 miles per hour for example). I know there’s an algorithm that takes into consideration the game incline (Garmin is not) but the difference is so huge between the Garmin and Zwift. Any suggestions? Is this the real speed? Is it a glitch?
Thanks
One thing you might want to rule out is accidentally hitting the brakes on the Ride controls. Go into settings and move the Braking Sensitivity slider all the way to the left.
As for whether the speed is reasonable that depends on the gradient, your power, etc. The Garmin won’t be very useful for understanding what’s going on.
If your on a 3 - 5% grade and doing an ERG workout when a recovery block hits at 45% of ftp you will certainly go slow up that hill.
This could be the reason… I’ll turn off ERG mode at that moment and see if the speed changes.
Thank you!
Thanks, but I don’t think it’s the brakes… this happens randomly and can last 20-40 seconds at a time.
Try not connecting your Garmin to the trainer and see if that makes a difference.
What device are you running Zwift on?
I’m using an iPad
Having the Garmin paired may affect directly the speed on Zwift? Garmin can be causing the glitch?.
or do you mean Garmin’s speed reading is not representative of what’s going on in the game?
The Garmin’s speed reading can definitely be very misleading due to it not knowing about the gradient,.rolling resistance and the whole thing about the way Zwift calculates your speed.
What I was suggesting is the chance that somehow your Garmin could be interfering with your trainer, e.g. it’s resistance. Now I don’t think it’s likely, but I don’t think it’s totally impossible either. Given that the it would be an easy thing to test, then it certainty wouldn’t hurt.
