Lead-in and spawn points

I recently changed the way I Zwift, and moved from racing and events to doing more free-riding and badge huning.

And I noticed that spawn points are a bit strange. I always assumed that one would always start at the beginning of the lead-in. And I knew that using meet-ups, you would skip it.

But yesterday I started “The Epiloch” and “The Classic” from the route menu, and my avatar was put near the route banner, skipping the 3-4 km lead-in. I tried a few more, and the same happens with Avon Flyer and Yumezi Grit. I also tried the “Volcano Circuit”, and it starts on the bridge, so not the banner and not where the lead-in is supposed to start.

But I also remember that during the tour of Zwift back in January/February, free rides were starting from the lead-in.

So, spawn points seem a bit random and don’t really reflect the maps in the app or on ZwiftInsider.

I’m Mac and 1.112.0. Might not be a bug, but if this is a well-known behaviour, I think it should be reflected somewhere in the app. One looks at maps mostly before a free ride, and they all include the lead-in, even if it’s not the case.

Yes the lead in can be different when you free ride a route vs starting from the pens. In some cases the difference is enormous, such as getting an extra Innsbruck KOM in an event.

Free ride spawn points can be very different, compared to races.

The biggest example that jumps to mind is the route Petite Douleur, in races the pen is at the base of reverse Petit KOM, but in freeride you spawn just before the Petit KOM banner, ~10Km away.

I think if you look at the in game route map you will see the free ride lead in distance and elevation. The map does still show you the full event lead in so possibly a little confusing.
