It’s a different “type” of challenge. This is what we call a quest which can be relatively easily set up as we do for a number of events, whereas the challenge is a lot more complex and requires much more development resource to set up that kind of thing.
But not everyone rides 1500km in a month. This is a decent enough challenge for a large section of our userbase but of course, we can’t make everyone happy and I recognise that some people would normally ride a lot further than others!
It’d be cool if this sort of challenge allowed people to loop through it multiple times. I don’t think it would even need extra rewards.
Make it opt in, just have a pop up the first time someone finishes saying “congratulations, you’re finished. Do you want to do it again?” Then it starts over with a badge showing how many times they’ve completed it.
That’s why I was saying if they bloated out the numbers and only gave 1 drop, at least so many of us have something to look at.
Throwing out some large numbers is easier and something they can already do versus having to program an entirely new system when it isn’t totally necessary.
I just want to point out that by being excessively inclusive, they’ve managed to be exclusive simultaneously. To put the challenge into perspective, anyone that rides Tempus Fugit for 1.5-2 hours a week can complete this challenge.
Which that’s fine, I’m not personally trying to take that away from anyone… but it’s also possible for the rewards to end there, and the challenge to be impossibly long as well, so the rest of us have a number or graph or whatever to continue to look at.
Regardless, I’d love to see an expansion of running challenges, and outdoor stuff as well. Both are wonderful additions. Yes you’ll always get people complaining they can’t do either or… but on the flipside you’ve also got people that ride 20 hours a week or more and finished this challenge within literal days, which is equally not fun.
There’s extremely little downside to limiting the rewards to the original 1,000km, but having it extend out to 50,000km to see how far some people get.
My Indoor Outdoor Challenge appears correctly in Zwift Companion and my progress updates normally, but the challenge card is completely missing from the Zwift game on iPhone. I’m on the latest version, have an active subscription, and have already completed rides after July 1
What is interesting in my particular case, is that normally during the summertime I would be doing much more outdoor riding than indoors on Zwift, but because I’m recovering from a wrist injury I sustained about a month ago, I’m now back to using the smart trainer almost exclusively. For myself, this challenge is going to be completed much more quickly just because of that. Normally I don’t even get back on Zwift until mid to late September, when the weeknight IRL rides are over. That said, the time interval to complete the challenge is pretty generous! I hope the participation levels are what ZHQ is looking for.
