In climb segments not only best time but also best power

In climb segments not only best time but also best power which makes beating a PB easier because you now have a power target to beat

Average power on Epic KOM, Ventop or ADZ is very handy.

I use a Garmin Edge to track that - starting the lap at the start line of the segment. It’s great for pacing those long segments and trying to improve.

Not really as these climbs are very irregular. It was actually during my Ven-Top ascent today that I got this idea….

So on how many climb segments would your suggestion actually be useful for ….

Climb portal, AdZ, Ventoux, Epic (which even lacks segments all together) , the grade, itza and probably a few others

”Not really”, as in, cannot use a Garmin to track power on ADZ, Epic KOM or Ventop?

It’s simple, you hit the lap button at the start line, hit the button at the end to stop it - and that’s your power. However you achieve it is up to you.

You can use it to pace yourself quite well.

Rather than segment based, just have it as a manual lap that you start and stop that gives you average power and any other metrics you want (average cadence, etc).

The perfect climb would have to be a targeted power for each climb segment (visible on portal climbs). I took this approach and while I rode with the same power average as my previous pb, I was faster because I did 30 watts higher on the red (steep) sections and less watts on the flat and shallow segments. My previous best effort was almost one power number for the entire climb.

That way you still cannot tell what power number you held during your previous attempt
