I have encountered significant issues after installing Cog on my home trainer

My setup is a Tacx NEO 2T connected to a TV screen via Apple TV. Normally, I connected via Bluetooth without any problems, but after installing Cog, the Bluetooth signal was no longer sufficient, so I had to connect through the Companion app on my mobile phone.

Since then, I periodically lose connection to my avatar: I am pedaling on the home trainer, but my avatar stops moving. This happens both when I ride manually and shift gears myself, and when I follow a structured workout where the trainer controls the resistance.

I have noticed that when the problem occurs, the message “ERG temporarily interrupted” appears.

Does anyone know this issue and have a solution?

Are your phone and Apple TV connected to the same network?

They must be or pairing through Companion would never happen at all.

I don’t think this has anything to do with the cog.

I have had repeated problems exactly as you describe, but when using DirCon to pair with ATV.

Happened a few times before the latest update, hasn’t happened since, but I only used Zwift a few times all summer. It got to the point where I gave up used the Companion App, hoipefully it’s finally fixed.

Here’s a link to an extensive thread about the issue.

How is the WiFi signal where you are Zwifting? And are there any potential points of interference? To me, it sounds like the connection from your phone to the WiFi might be experiencing some issues. Maybe try turning off the cellular aspect of your phone to see if the issue persists. I’m wondering if the phone (being used as a bridge) might be alternating between WiFi and cellular signals.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your input. Unfortunately, the issue is still not resolved.

  1. My mobile phone and Apple TV are connected to the same network.
  2. I agree that this is not related to the Cog, but related to connecting through the Companion app. I’m using the latest software version, 1.122.0.
  3. The Wi-Fi signal is strong where I use Zwift. I have also tried disconnecting the mobile signal by enabling Flight Mode, but this did not solve the problem.

I’m currently in contact with Zwift Support, but unfortunately they have not yet been able to provide a workable solution, so I still need help

Kind regards,
Gert Foshammer

What have they suggested that you try?

As the Cog has no electronics, but is just a physical mechanism, the issue doesn’ have much of a chance of being related to the Cog. But, if, you’re using the Cog, I’m guessing you have the Zwift Click or Zwift Play controllers. Which do you have? If the Click, which version? My understanding is that the Click v2 pair to the game as a single connection, as opposed to two separate connections. So, if this is the setup you have, can you pair the trainer and the Clicks directly to the ATV to see if that works?

He was connecting directly before the click and cog and things worked fine. What phone are you using is another question. Why was the bluetooth connection no longer “sufficient?” How many devices are you trying to pair?

That’s the reason for my question. There’s no mention of an HRM, or which version of Click, so I’m curious about the need for the phone/Companion bridge.

Hi all

My Zwift setup also includes a Bluetooth speaker connected to my mobile phone, which also are running the Companion app. A few days ago, the speaker ran out of battery, so while it was charging, I completed a training session without music. Interestingly, I did not experience any ERG dropouts during that ride.

Since then, I have tested the setup both with and without the Bluetooth speaker connected, and the result has been consistent every time. The issue only occurs when the Bluetooth speaker is connected.

So, it appears that the problem has now been identified and resolved. I simply need to find an alternative way to listen to music while riding.

Thanks very much for your help and support. It’s highly appreciated.

Best regards

Most Bluetooth speakers can be connected with a 3.5mm stereo jack, and your phone will either have that jack, or support using an adapter that lets you plug it in. I would look for an adapter that has both the stereo jack and a pass-through charging connector.
