You should only consider the open ear/bone conducting headphones when cycling outdoors, you need to be able to hear things around you.
I use shokz and they are just fine, but I dont expect to be able to “only” hear my music, i want to be able to hear the outside world too and the beeps coming from my head unit/varia radar.
Using Suunto Wing 2 - music with 30 km/h ok (but don’t expect much quality), phone with 23-24 km/h max (I can understand, but the other side doesn’t understand me). I believe Shokz are the same - the same (open ear) technology, the same physics
Agreed! Not only can you hear traffic, but you can also hold a conversation while listening to music.
The ONLY slight drawback is when having to put a beanie or such on for cold, but fortunately for me that is the minority of the year around here. (Maybe that’s why I notice it!)
Maybe I’m not going fast enough (only usually 60km/h max speed around here), but the wind noise isn’t a problem to me. So I’m using Oakley x Meta Vanguard glasses. These for the video recording although they do audio no problems and I can hear cars without issue.
The voice control for the glasses is great, you can easily talk on a phone call. Super practical.
I generally do not like any music or other audio going while I’m riding it must be said. These glasses are as close as I go to that, they are mainly for my safety on some bad roads I have to use. It is easy to say “Hey meta, start recording”.
