I just did the climb. there is a 23% grade at some point! when going downhill, i was coasting and got up to 61mph / 98kph. on a whim i decided to spin hard, and easily went up to 65mph / 104kph. I only had to go 600W for a few seconds. no aero powerup, no tweaking trainer difficulty etc.
Nice. I was hoping to race it down at some point.
I think I hit 112 on a descent and Strava auto cancelled it as too fast for a bicycle. I’m pretty sure it was Ventoux.
Hardknott is cracking climb. It’s the steepest average there is not counting the very short ones.
It has gradients regularly over 20%.
I’ve ridden it in real life and the 2 hairpins hit 33%.
Hardest climb in the UK.
It’s a really challenging descent too, very narrow road with lots of little kinks in it. You have to be on the brakes all the way down and you cannot afford to pick up any speed. People have lost their lives descending it. Equally as hard going doing as coming up.
Enjoy it!
I was way over 100kph and Strava ‘auto-corrected’ and did not allow it to be the CR. That’s about what I expected to happen. I did put in a very serious sprint. I guess next time (if there is a next time) I will have to do a somewhat serious sprint. 1:42 is the current record on Strava. 1:26 is too fast. lol, there should be a badge for that. Ventoux I have 13:08 I think, 13:04 is the record and my 12:54 was disallowed. That one was a lot of effort. Hardknot I barely pedaled after getting up to speed. It’s fine. I do it for the challenge of it, for me.
But thanks for the suggestion. (It is a wicked steep climb.)
