Garmin Edge 1040 with Zwift app/Program?

Hey guys. I have a Wahoo Kickr Core with the zwift cog & click. I also have a garmin edge 1040 solar i’d like to use with it. Is there a way to get my garmin edge to connect or at least grab routes and such in zwift? I’d like to integrate it so that it can either compliment the app/program (i open on my PC and have my phone at the bike) or just use the garmin with my phone/pc and or download routes and use the garmin solo. If all that makes sense…
thanks!

Hi @Christopher_Wilson,

I hope you’re doing well! This is Haziel from the Zwift Support team. I understand that you have some questions about using the Garmin Edge 1040 Solar with Zwift, and I’m here to help.

I want to clarify that while Garmin Connect is not directly supported by Zwift, you can still easily upload your Zwift rides to Garmin. Your rides are saved in .fit files on your computer, which makes the process straightforward. If you need guidance, please take a moment to check this article for step-by-step instructions.

If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re always here for you.

Chris, re using a Garmin whilst running Zwift on the PC.

I do this. I run zwift on a PC using an Elite Directo trainer.

I also run my garmin 1030 at the same time.

I use a bike profile on the Garmin for inside rides.

Select this profile and then I select Free Ride.

You can set your own data screens to read what you want.

My Garmin HR belt is read by both pc and 1030 And do is the trainer. It’s just selecting the trainer on the 1030 as a power source.

You have to press start button on 1030 when you start zwifting so it records the data.

After the Zwift ride, stop 1030 and the you notice that mileage is off as wheel circumference is never correct on 1030 for the trainer. :unamused:.

After saving the Zwift ride as normal I save the Garmin ride as normal as well.

Then log into Strava find the Garmin ride and delete it as its a duplicate of the Zwift ride but with less miles and NO elevation. All other date, power, HR etc is correct.

I then log into connect and match the data from the Zwift ride to the Garmin ride so miles, elevation and ride name us the same.

Then I delete the Zwift ride from garmin, leaving just the Garmin ride on connect.

It’s a bit of a fiddle, but you soon get the hang of it and it becomes second nature.

Hardest art is making sure the Garmin picks us trainer as power source.

Hope you understand and it works for you. :+1:

Thanks a ton for the step by step instructions, that helps a LOT. I was having the same issue and wondering how best to use my 1040 and Zwift.
I do have one question though - everyone seems to say to Update the Garmin ride in Connect and delete the Zwift Ride - why not just keep the Zwift ride and delete the Garmin ride, since the Zwift Ride has all the data? Or is it missing something crucial?

I tend to delete the Zwift ride as it doesn’t count toward any of the Connect Challenges.
The rides recorded by the Garmin device do.
That’s the main reason I do it. :+1:
