First Indoor 100 miles Hardware (Tab/Laptop and Trainer)

Hi, I am planning to do my first Indoor 100 miles in the end of December. Uber Pretzel + Down AdZ + some flat sections. Might be takes up to 7 hours++, no aircon, 30-35 deg celcius.

Last week I did 3 hours indoor structured workout in my M1 iPad, notice framerate drop after 2 hours and slightly dimmed screen. I really worry it will freeze when doing 100 miles. Is it safe to still do it in iPad or should I switch to Windows Laptop?

Performance wise, I am in 3w/kg FTP and planned to do this in 2w/kg. Is it dangerous if I stay at 100% trainer difficulty or should I change it to easier 50%?

Thank you!

Whether the tablet is better or worse than the PC depends on the PC specs.

Whether the Trainer Difficulty setting matters much depends on your gearing and how steep a gradient your trainer can simulate. Trainer Difficulty can also be adjusted during the ride.

When you saw the frame rate dip and screen dimmed, was the tablet plugged in to power and using a charging brick designed for a tablet (ie, not a 1A charger)? I wonder if it went into some kind of lower power mode.

I have a Ryzen 3750H, GTX1650, 16GB RAM laptop.
Yes I have my tablet unplugged during last long ride. As long as I remember the frame dropped and screen dimmed in around 20% battery state, maybe right at its entering Low Power Mode. I hesitated to plugged the tablet in to the power because condition was quite hot in my backyard. Maybe I’ll try to have the tablet fully plugged in my long ride this week.

Thanks bro!

Nice laptop, should be fine, though it would make sense to test it before embarking on an ambitious ride with it. Recommended Nvidia settings for Zwift include Threaded Optimization set to ON, and Triple Buffering set to ON. Also recommended to disable OneDrive and any antivirus software other than Microsoft Defender.

If you’re going to do your first indoor 100, why not do PRL Full and get the badge/bonus-xp?

If possible, consider a UPS for short power outages. While outages aren’t usually an issue in my area, they can be really frustrating during storms —especially when they interrupt a long ride! LOL

@Paul_Southworth Ah thanks a lot for the settings advice! Definitely will do a trial first this week!

@Bryan_McKenney_Dirt idk I found Uber Pretzel more appealing for me. More explorative and variative compared to PRL Full which has only loops. I think Uber Pretzel also has route badge and wherever we do 100 miles, will also get 100 miles badge and bonus xp

@XavierC haha this is actually really make me think. Sometimes there is outage once a month, don’t have any UPS. If I use tablet, i still could use small power bank, but cannot be used for laptop, fan and trainer.
