I am not sure what notifications engine you use, but if Firebase you will already be able to show in realtime (Streamview) a map of the world and where anyone has the COMPANION app open based on network 3g. I guess you ar eprobably using this anyway to see true location of the userbase rather than where folks select a flag for, but kindof interesting to show where folks actually are
