From the little I’ve read, it seems that from time to time it has actually been recommended by some who have spoken on Zwift’s behalf, to exploit this ‘feature’ for participants in group rides who might be challenged keeping to a set pace. I’d wager that this ‘feature’ may have been intended for utility in rides, and changing it for just ‘races’ might be a challenge.
Shameful, truly shameful.

encouraged in group rides if needed but when doing so i’ve never seen any mention to change it mid ride. I actually thought changes mid ride didnt take effect until next event but clearly that is not the case

Are they more open to implementing feature requests and improving the platform? That’s the part of Zwift that’s been most infuriating to me over the years.

I have bugs that I opened with Zwift that are 3 years old with no fix. RGT recently had an annoying bug for Mac users. I reported it, they communicated well about it, they fixed it within 3 weeks. It’s only one data point, but given they are a small scrappy team, RGT punch above their weight on support.

To be fair, they are only free for a limited subset of features. You only have access to a small number of courses, don’t have access to workouts, and cannot create events. You can however join other people’s events/races with the free version, so you can experience all the different courses.

A while ago, I complained on Discord that their race lap counter was a bit unintuitive (it said something like “lap 4/15” when you had completed 4 laps so in effect you were on lap 5 at that point), and I was shocked to notice it had been fixed in another race about a week later. So… yeah.

Oh and did I mention that RGT natively supports the M1 (Arm-based) Macs… Zwift, not so much, which is pretty crazy.
