ERG mode no longer working after 1.86

ERG mode is no longer working for me. My equipment:

  • Jet Black Victory
  • Zwift Hub

I have tried:

  • Uninstall/reinstall Jet Black app
  • spindown
  • uninstall/reinstall Zwift
  • repairing all devices
  • uninstall/reinstall Zwift companion

ERG will work in the Jet Black app and Rouvy.

Hi @Albert_Lam1! Welcome to the forums! I’m Francisco from Zwift Support.

We know how important ERG mode is to your training. Thanks for flagging it up.

Does it happen with ANT+ and Bluetooth (BLE) protocols?

Switch Between ANT+ and BLE:

  • If you’re currently connected via BLE, try switching to ANT+ to see if ERG mode functions correctly.
  • Similarly, if you’re using ANT+, switch to BLE to test whether that resolves the issue.

Review ERG Mode Troubleshooting Guide:

  • For optimal setup, please refer to this helpful guide: ERG Mode Troubleshooting. It includes detailed tips on identifying and resolving potential issues with ERG mode.

Update Trainer Firmware:

  • Ensure that your trainer’s firmware is updated to the latest version by checking through the Jet Black app. For example, on March 18th, your trainer firmware version was 4.13—confirm that this is still the most recent version.

Address Connectivity Issues:

  • While reviewing your account, I noticed 5 BLE disconnection events recorded from your Victory trainer on March 20, 2025.

To isolate and address these disconnections, it might be helpful to follow this guide: BLE and ANT+ Interference Troubleshooting Tips.

We’ve noticed reports of ERG mode behaving inconsistently on Android devices when using ANT+, I peeked at your log server and noticed that you’re using a Samsung SM-X700 with BLE, switching to connections often resolves similar issues, so it’s worth exploring.

Just an input, in another log-out. I could see that you’re using a Lenovo device running Android 14, We don’t recommend logging into multiple devices with the same account—at the same.

Francisco,

Thank you for your reply. I tried both BT and Ant. With BT, it would register the power, but it would not hold value with ERG. With Ant, it would not register the power or pedal stroke. I don’t know if you have anything else to say based on that.

I will look at the trouble shooting guide you mentioned.

I do have the updated firmware for JetBlack. I downloaded 4.19 this morning, but issue exists with 4.13 and 4.19.

I tried the second tablet I had on hand to see if it was a tablet issue. That is why you also see the Lenovo.

I’m having this same issue after updating to 1.86 (142579), also with a JetBlack Victory and Zwift Cog. After updating the Zwift App, I no longer get any wattage values, but I do get cadence values from the trainer. Erg Mode and Resistance Mode both function properly with the JetBlack Companion App. I’m having this problem whether the trainer is connected to my phone or tablet. I had no problems with the old app version, last used 2 days ago.

update: i tried many things and finally was able to get data coming across, but not erg mode and only ANT+. still no ERG mode in ANT+ and no erg or resistance mode via bluetooth.

  • checked for firmware update on jetblack, i was already up to date
  • closed all other apps
  • restarted phone
  • restarted tablet
  • tried with and without the zwift click being connected
  • tried both ANT and bluetooth
What seemingly finally fixed it was re-running the calibration in the JetBlack app, then closing that app and going back to Zwift.

There’s a lot of good information in this topic about all the problems with the Victory

as an update to this, I was able to borrow a friend’s windows laptop and had no problems connecting to my JetBlack Victory via Bluetooth and using it in ERG mode with the windows laptop. I’m now confident that something in the 1.86 update for Android has broken connectivity.

After reading your post, i got the idea to try linking up my old iPad and sure enough it works. So I’m leaning towards your theory that 1.86 broke Zwift on certain Android platforms.

Hope Zwift people see this comment and look into it.

Hello Francisco -

After Zwift 1.86 patch to Windows 10, ERG mode and controlled watt/power from Workouts no longer working with Wahoo Kickr (has current firmware v4.5.74). My last successful interval workout was March 16th, 2025. I’ve attempted to use the ERG/intervals since March 18th without success.

I have tried: Zwift spindown calibration, uninstall/reinstall of Zwift for Windows

Any update on this thanks ? I just got amy Jetblack Victory and no real ERG mode in Zwift at all, running it over wi-fi, based on reading above it won’t work on ANT+ or BLE either. ERG workout mode works perfectly fine on the JetBlack app, so it is a Zwift thing I assume.

I am on Zwift 1.89 on my PC.
JetBlack firmware 4.17
JetBlack App 1.4.4

Using my Magene power meter PES P505 as the power source ERG mode works great in Zwift.

Also 3 second smoothing is not working when using the JetBlack as the power source, it does when I use the Magene as the power source.

EDIT: 4th spindown calibration on the JetBlack app ā€œseemsā€ to have fixed the issue, off for a ride now to confirm.

3 second smoothing is definately not working though in Zwift when using the JetBlack as the power source, jumps all over the place, with magene it is a smooth display changing every few seconds. I have a video capture if you require.

To me, this sounds more like some setting with the Magene. Just because the power number is constantly changing doesn’t mean it’s not being smoothed (because none of us put out power as consistently as we’d like to think we do). Staying at the same wattage for a few seconds at a time seems like something beyond ā€˜smoothing’.

3-second power just means that the trailing 3 seconds of power are being averaged for display. However, the display could in theory be refreshed every half-second.

You might get a better idea of what your trainer is sending Zwift and why your 3s power is erratic, by looking at instant power to see what’s going on.

Given that the Victory supports 10Hz ā€œrace modeā€ power reporting, I would expect the numbers to look more bouncy. It’s sending updates much more frequently than the power meter. I don’t know if there’s a problem here or not. It’s plausible that the difference is explained by the update frequency, in which case the bouncy numbers are reality.

All working fine this morning, not sure what I changed as I mucked around with so many things, but working smooth as butter now.
