Direct Connection Issues [October 2025]

I used DirCon on ATV two days ago without any problems

The problem is you dont know when it is going to happen. I have used dircon for two weeks without problem and then in the middle of a race, booom! disconnect appears.

Maybe I’m just lucky, but I’m the OP of this thread and I’ve never had it disconnect during a race. Every time I’ve successfully found and paired over DirCon and it’s disconnected, it’s been during an extended idle period, either in the start pen or after crossing a finish line.

I got a Core 2 a couple of weeks ago and have exclusively used WiFi DirCon with it and have not had any issues, other than a bit of a procedure trying to get it to forget the old network when I replaced my router (had to forget trainer in Wahoo app & phone bluetooth, uninstall and re-install app, and then when it went through the “trainer setup” I could enter the new network)

I’ve been using dircon (kickrv6 with ethernet module) all the way through all the issues that have been reported. I have never had any disconnects myself. But it’s been acting weird on the pairing screen since the start. At first it was flashing connected/disconnected, which was solved with a zwift update (this only happened on the pairing screen, the connecting was always stable while riding). But that fix made it so it remained in the connecting state forever in the initial pairing screen. Ignoring the connecting state and riding anyway again no issues with disconnects, only the pairing screen acting up. If I open the pairing screen again (after the initial time when starting zwift where the status is forever connecting), it shows connected as expected.

So while I never experienced any actual disconnects. It’s still acting weird when the pairing screen opens when zwift just starts, the status there remains connecting.

Yes, you are lucky :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: all my disconnections happens racing or riding on a group/solo

@Antoine_GOUGEON or anyone: have you retried DirCon recently?

I stopped to try …

Mine was working and now its broken

Okay just thought I’d chime in here as last couple of weeks are getting rather frustrating.. Started Zwift back in Sep 24 - Wahoo Kickr Move and a Direct Connect - prefer Ethernet over WiFi in the house where I can and have good UniFi setup. Not one connection problem at all and I’ve been Zwifting everyday pretty much since.. However I’ve just swapped to a Wahoo Kickr Bike Pro (1 month old) - got the DirCon plugged in and although I know there has been an update to Zwift where the Ethernet / WiFi icon in the connection screen is now just a WiFi icon (whereas before I knew I was DirCon with Ethernet looking icon) I’m now experiencing Lost Connections. It’s mainly been happening in Group Rides or Workouts in groups.. Is there any solution or troubleshooting tips to this yet?

Welcome to the club Anthony!

That said, the new release brings an interesting update:

Same experience with many months KickrvV6 and DirCon rock solid, now only wifi ant Bluetooth options to connect show up. The wahoo app says direct connect on network ready to be discovered …yet Zwift is not discovering. Multiple dropouts disappearing riders etc. Everything’s updated , reinstalled and rebooted.

If riders are intermittently disappearing that is almost always a problem with your network. That symptom by itself doesn’t tell you exactly where the network disruption occurred (anywhere between the device running the game and Zwift’s backend servers). But with your second symptom of DirCon connection issues, that points toward a local problem. Without knowing all the details about your network topology it’s hard to say more.

(BTW if riders disappear but you still see their bikes on the screen, that’s a different issue - usually resource exhaustion on the device running the game.)

The Direct Connect was rock solid until the recent Zwift updates…now Zwift doesn’t show the Ethernet icon in the pairing screen only wifi ant and Bluetooth. The direct connect is active and ready to be discovered and the laptop and direct connect are on the same Ethernet network sub net. Nothing changed but Zwift and it doesn’t show the Ethernet icon direct connect as it did before. Oh well back to wifi connection. I’ll watch here for solutions and or updates. Thanks

My impression is that some of the reports about DirCon issues in this topic are real problems. But if riders are disappearing, that’s something else. So the question is whether you have only network problems, or if you have a combination of two problems.

Zwift changed the icons a few updates back. Now there isn’t a separate icon for a wired DirCon connection - it just shows a wifi icon for both wired and wireless DirCon.

As noted by @Steve_Hammatt the icon changed in v1.110.
I have mentioned a couple of times in other threads that I believe that is a regression and leads to confusion.
Wahoo has said that if the trainer has DirCon connected, it will use DirCon.

Thanks for the clarification.
