Direct Connection Issues [October 2025]

See earlier in this thread. Zwift are working on it:

I’ve been experiencing the same issue. But the blinking connect/disconnect seems to only affect the pairing screen. If I ignore it, everything works as expected during the ride.

Hi all,

So I recently moved to a new house and since the move, I cannot get the wifi connection working from my Wahoo Kickr Bike V2 to Zwift. It shows the Kickr Bike in the pairing menu, but when selecting the Bike, it forever stays on ‘Connecting….’. I’ve tried resetting the modem, unplugging the wifi boosters / Kickr Bike, but nothing works. Within the Wahoo app it shows that the Bike is connected to the Wifi.

Anyone else experienced the same issue and knows how to fix this?

Same here. Fortunately, everything seems to be fine during the ride (Kickr V6 with Direct Connect to a Mac mini M4 on macOS 26.0.1).

Yes, he posted that in my thread. I just reposted it here to join the group.

There’s a fix for Direct Connect in 1.101. See if that helps?

Same issue here. Everything was working until about 7-10 days ago. Using Kickr V2 with Apple TV. Was always fine over companion and then it stopped. Controls + HR show as CONNECTED while Power, Cadence, etc are hanging on CONNECTING. Last night for some reason, it connected over BT but today I was unable to. I even restarted AppleTV (latest software), Kickr (also latest software), to be safe created a new wifi network and it still is the same problem. Really frustrating. I hope the fix comes soon.

UPDATE - I tried today with Zwift on my Mac and it’s the same, hanging on connecting and doesn’t work.

Finger crossed the 1.101.0 version will fix this, the change log looks promising

Connecting/Connected flashing stopped in 1.101 on Android but I still have a problem with Direct Connect (wired) on a Kickr Bike v2. I see other reports of this in the wild since 1.100 so I don’t think it’s a bike issue. There is apparently some trigger which stops Zwift transmitting gradient information to the bike. Today on Stay Puft Pursuit it happened on the first escalator out of the subway; normally ride in virtual gear 7 or 8 but I dropped to 3 for the incline and could only ride in 2-4 thereafter. I was still able to tilt the bike using the buttons. Tilted it up to 10% at one point, unlocked the tilt function, waited for the in-game gradient to change, bike remained at 10%, which is why my diagnosis is that the gradient information either isn’t being transmitted or isn’t being received.

I think that’s an unrelated issue, not specific to your bike or Direct Connect.

I my case the tilt was totally stopped.

Currently in BT to wait 1.101.0.

I’m using Zwift for Windows on my PC. I rode my Kickr Bike last night and had to connect via Bluetooth in order to ride. Today I did the update to 1.101 and then tried to connect my Kickr Bike again. When I attempted to connect the bike via WiFi, it would show the controls as connected but power, cadence and resistance would not connect. I had to use Bluetooth again to complete my workout.

Is this why I’ve been having issues the last few weeks with connecting my kickr bike v2 over WiFi? I’ve had to use ant+ connection recently and losing race mode.

Did some more testing this afternoon with trainer difficulty set to 100% so I would feel immediately when it stopped working, which it did about 10 minutes into a robo-pacer ride. Quit out of Zwift, opened it again, wouldn’t connect to bike through Direct Connect (stuck on “Connecting…” on every tile except Controls). Restarted tablet, didn’t help, suspected bike fault. Tried MyWh**sh, also wouldn’t connect. Was still able to run an ERG style workout in the Wahoo app (which was closed the rest of the time). Went back into Zwift, tried to connect to the bike with Bluetooth, worked fine. Could only connect again using Direct Connect after switching the bike off and on, and temporarily disconnecting it under Controls. So either a bunch of Kickr Bikes have developed the same bizarre fault shortly after the release of 1.100, or that particular update and its successor can at some point transmit gradient information which causes the bike to stop processing any further gradient information received via TCP/IP

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my latest test in case it helps others or ZwiftHQ identify the issue.

Setup:

  • Kickr Bike V2 (factory new, hardware Rev C)

  • Firmware 2.2.22 / Wi-Fi 1.0.16

  • Direct Connect (Ethernet)

  • Zwift v1.101.0 (Windows / LAN or WIFI connection)

  • Difficulty = 100 % / Simulation mode ON

Issue observed:

Everything worked perfectly for the first ~2 hours.

Then, the tilt stopped responding, and resistance went flat (as if riding 0 % gradient).

No error message was shown — the bike just stopped receiving grade/resistance updates, while speed and cadence continued normally.

What I tried:

  • Bike power cycle → tilt/resistance instantly came back :white_check_mark:

  • Restarting Zwift → also fixed it temporarily

  • Same behavior reproduced several times since Zwift 1.97

This looks like a DirCon UDP session timeout, because both tilt + ERG control drop at the same moment, and reconnecting the cable recreates a fresh connection that works again.

Over Bluetooth → 100 % stable, no tilt freeze even on 4 h rides.

It seems the DirCon socket/session isn’t refreshed after long sessions, leading to this silent disconnect.

@ZwiftHQ — can you please check if this UDP keepalive issue is still open since v1.97?

I’d be happy to share logs if that helps.

Restarting Zwift didn’t seem to fix it for me, but using Bluetooth instead of DirCon was completely stable for a 1-hour ride today.

I wrote a python script to send message on the UDP port to see if there is a sort of time out.

Same dircon disconnect today, about ten minutes into a race. Had to repair to Bluetooth, but lost about 100 places in the process. Fun chase, but would rather not have the issue.

Failed for me again today, ATV, v1.101, WiFi Core2. Very frustrating, bought the trainer specifically for race mode, can only get reliable usage with BT hence no race mode. I would prefer Zwift spent less resources building colourful new routes and more time ensuring the fundamentals are rock solid. Starting to make me very cross.
