Runners are such funny people!!
Thank you and Good luck!
Ok, if you can do this, than make some months more and you can get a pro contract!
No I dont think so, the pros have FTPs over 6. There is a huge difference between 5.5 and 6 and since it impossible to say if someone has any potential or not they surely would not look at anyone below 6.
Sorry, i didnt mean to offend anyone by posting my running PBs and what cycling FTP I got after 7 weeks of training.
Yes, the best pros - winning races and/or tours.
You are now exactly in the middle of domestic pro chartā¦
No my FTP (after 8 weeks) is 4.3 w/kg. Thats very good, not domestic pro. I wrote that I will go back to running when I get to 5.5 (domestic pro). However I am heavy (79kg with 9% body.fat) so that is in my favour. I think I will get to 5.5 and hundreds of my friends think so to.
Hi, here are the facts about running vs cycling performance. I managed to find it through my friends. Thread might be closed as the facts are now known:
3.5 W/kg = 50 min 10km. Youāre decent, better than most of your friends that just ājog.ā But thereās one or two who are generally fit that can hang with you. When youāre training you pass everyone you see, you are speed, you never encounter faster runners when you train.
4 w/kg = 40-45 min 10km. Youāre fast. None of your friends that donāt train are faster. You enter your first big race like a turkey trot or spring classic. You get humbled, doznes, maybe hundreds of runners are faster than you. This is the āIām good enough to realize how much i suckā level. Most people on this subreddit, including me, are resigned to staying in this zone.
4.5 w/kg = 35 min 10km. You are in the mix on every race you enter, part of the lead group. Maybe even winning some smaller races. Takes lots of work and some genetic help.
5 w/kg = 30 min 10km. Elite. College level.
Have to say, this thread reads as the archetypal humblebrag.
Well done for driving away one of the most highly regarded contributors to these fora, though
I didnt create this thread to brag, and I cannot take responsebility of otger peoples feelings. Anyway the question has been objectively answered, thread closed.
You should take responsibility for the manner in which you address someone who took the time to try to answer your question.
He was wrong. He wrote that it is not possible to answer when this is clearly not the case, so I had to find the answer myself. He should apologize.
Is the answer known?
Have you got on your bike and entered a race IRL?
Road race, crit, cyclocross, gravel , XC MTB, Enduro, BMX are all different and select a different athlete.
It is vastly different than E racing, which is its own discipline but the field is full of deliberate cheaters and invalid equipment.
You felt you were starting off at 4.3 w/k which is already quite good.
Most people donāt accidentally find themselves starting off so well.
That leads to suggestions to verify the equipment.
Runners freq hop on a bike and feel they have better results than experienced riders only to find their hand-me-down trainer was not accurate.
That said, I feel the best increases in fitness for myself and others has occurred during periods of cross training.
I think swimming and weight lifting are particularly useful but that might be my biased opinion.
I donāt think your researched comparison is any more accurate than the max HR equation of 220 - age, which for me, is pretty accurate but doesnāt seem to work for everyone on.
The jump from 4.3 to 5.5 w/k is what makes us chuckle.
You donāt get that from hard work and not over the summer.
Iām not sure itās impossible for you but you started this thread a few weeks ago not sure if you wanted to continue running or start cycling (you may have been recovering from an injury).
You are not going to accidentally have an FTP 5 w/k.
If it was that easy, we would all have it.
Weāre not talking about Halo bikes here, this is true fitness and itās not an overnight thing.
And maybe, some experienced riders do know more than you and your hundreds of friends who sound like they donāt ride much either.
I think this whole thread is just for trolling entertainment because I canāt image an experienced endurance athlete making your claims.
I thought you might be trolling for data to program a Bot.
I just did 20 min with average power 380w. That equals an FTP of 361, which is 4.6 w/kg for me. Very happy with that, and I think 5.5 is possible in the future.
Here is my progression:
Start: FTP 272, 3.4 w/kg (ramp test)
2 weeks: FTP 313, 3.9 w/kg
4 weeks: FTP 323, 4.1 w/kg (ramp test)
6 weeks: FTP 340, 4.3 w/kg
9 weeks: FTP 361, 4.6 w/kg
What is your 10mile or 20km iTT time?
With that power, you should do 45kmh with ease
I assume that is also your experiance
I have never done a TT or a race. Im not so interested in normal races as I want it to be about pure physique rather than racing skill and tactics but I will to TTs when I have the best TT bike fully upgraded and the best TT wheels.
I have never been on a real bike (except when going to school 35 years ago) so I dont know how fast I can go outside of Zwift or even how it is riding a racing bike.
9 weeks ago I had hardly even been on a spinning bike in a gym.
Is my progress to incredible to be true?
With your very limited history in both running and especially cycling it is very rare, yes.
Isolated, the numbers are not really that unique
But as mentioned.
You defiantly want to check firmware ver. on your wahoo and do factory spindown. That is if accuracy is your thing.
Thereās been issues with virtual shifting and over reporting
Your numbers look good and you should keep at it.
I hope you enjoy the bike and running.
Continuing to cross training is an excellent way to increase fitness and avoid injury as long as you give yourself adequate recovery time.
That said, I doubt you have improved your fitness from 3.4 to 4.6 in 6 weeks.
You are most likely becoming more efficient with muscle recruiting and are unlocking the fitness you already possessed.
At some point , the apparent gains will plateau and then you build from there.
I find recovery is a more difficult thing to schedule than a workout.
Speaking of recovery. Yesterday I did a double threshold day (running) at the same speeds (on a calibrated threadmill) as I did when I was in peak shape before my injury. That in itself is nothing special, however, I was able to do it the day after doing my 20-min FTP test, followed by some threshold intervalls. In other words, I did my hardest cycling day and then the day after my hardest running day without the first effecting the second. This is amazing I think. If this is doable tor a longer time it means that I can do 4 threshold sessions running (2 double threshold days) and at least 2 threshold days of cycling in a single week. I think this would actually be more beneficial for my running than doing only running (with 1 long run and 4 easy days a week plus the two DT days).
Anyway, I have done a factory reset for my wahoo kickr now to make sure I wasnt geting free watts. It feels as before so I do think my numbers are legit but will try a 5-min test laster this week.
