A great addition to Zwift would be to allow users to create their own routes with the help of AI (if needed). Tell Zwift how far, how high, which world and them let it give some recommendations that you can use/save/re-use. If necessary, limit users to 5 or 10 user-defined routes. Zwift would build in your on-screen turns and your HUD hill profile.
There are many times I’m looking for that “Goldilocks” ride with just the right distance and climb, but have to settle for something far less.than what I want for that day.
The main reason you feel this way is that you have to use a third party like Zwift Insider or What’s on Zwift in order to see what route you need or want. There are too many routes (and we will still have more soon) but if you don’t know them, you can not know that the route/selection you want already exists.
There are quite a few maps, Neokyo, Makuri, and now New York, where it is very difficult to navigate while on a free ride without the use of a select route.
There’s been a route builder app for Zwift for at least a few years, called Road Captain. The creator used to post updates on here, sounded great, but I couldn’t test it because at the time I was zwifting on my mobile.
Road Captain replaces the Companion app and uses that mechanism to make the turns, so you can run Road Captain on your desktop machine and Zwift on the phone if you want. It worked for me but I’m too lazy to mess around with that sort of thing.
Anyway there are loads of existing feature requests in the forum related to custom routes, either making use of existing roads or uploading GPX data. Obviously those are very different feature requests but those are the two buckets that they usually fall into.
I gave it a try but it’s buggy (eg impossible to go from titan’s Grove to southern coast) and seems to be unmaintained for almost 2 years so even without bugs you cannot create routes with roads which have been added in 2025
