Cradle of Humankind routes (was: How to ask for adding a map into Zwift)

Dear Zwift Team and Community,

I hope this message finds you well.

I would like to enquire about the possibility of introducing cycling routes from South Africa—specifically the well-known Cradle of Humankind area—into the Zwift platform. These routes are widely regarded as some of the most scenic and cyclist-friendly in the country, offering a variety of terrain suitable for both recreational riders and serious endurance athletes.

The Cradle routes are especially popular among local cyclists, with weekend group rides often attracting several thousand participants. It is not uncommon for riders to complete loops of up to 150 km in this area, making it an ideal candidate for immersive long-distance virtual riding experiences.

In addition, South Africa has a strong cycling culture and is home to some of the largest one-day races in the world, such as the Ride Joburg (formerly the 94.7 Cycle Challenge) and the Cape Town Cycle Tour. Including South African routes in Zwift could help represent this vibrant community and introduce global users to a unique and diverse cycling environment.

Could you kindly advise on the process for proposing new map locations or how one might formally submit such a request for consideration?

Thank you for your time and for the continued development of an outstanding platform.

Kind regards,

Zwift doesn’t appear to pay attention to world suggestions. They will do what they think is best. Every Zwift user has ideas about new world and road development, and I would be happy to ride most of them, but the suggestions don’t go anywhere.

I don’t think they feel comfortable telling you to simply forget it and not waste your time.

Zwift is also developing new features consistently, just not in accordance with your preferences. If that makes you want to use some other app, that’s OK. I stay with Zwift because I like to ride with people and the competitors are not good for that. I also like new routes but on balance I stay because I still enjoy it. I also have many route suggestions but I don’t offer them any more.

I just read yesterday that Peloton (you know the huge virtual spin class platform that is super popular) has scrapped their “zwift competitor” project as it was seen as “a non-growth opportunity”. I read that as, it is too hard to compete with Zwift so we won’t even bother and stick to our spin classes.

That’s the park it on the forums because it won’t happen suggestion.

It’s most likely whatever you suggest, they will build something absolutely the opposite to that, that’s if they do anything.

Probably more that it is too different from their usual offering. There are certainly other competitors out there and some of them are definitely good.

Peloton had a design for a controllable bike prior to TACX/WAHOO. My neighbors did it for them. Peloton declined.
