Computrainer not found in new Pairing Screen [Sept 2025]

Installing driver version 2.12.36.4 worked for me! I have Windows 10 and I last successfully used Zwift in August. Today I missed my ride but at least I have a solution for the next time. Thank you for this specific suggestion. I uninstalled 2.12.36.20 and used the install wizard from ftdichip

This worked for me, too! Thank you!! Back to Zwifting!

Hi @Rowdy, I just fired up Zwift to start my off-season, got the updates and Computrainer is not found. Computrainer support is the reason I am on the platform since the beginning, and while I understand it is old hardware, the Zwift software side has been done and working for years. This part of the tech is low level and doesn’t go obsolete like operating systems and graphics drivers, so I really don’t see why it can’t be included. I really hope it was a mistake that broke the connection, and that it will be restored soon.

Read the posts above, as this issue appears to have a solution. Not an issue with Zwift, but with the drivers on your computer.

Thanks Nigel, you’re right. I didn’t scroll up far enough to see ppl found a driver issue. My driver got updated with the last Windows 10 update, so I reverted it and all seems good.

Ride on!

Hi @Rowdy, thanks for your willingness to help. My issue was self-inflicted by a driver update. Zwift has been working flawlessly for so long I forgot drivers even existed lol. Really appreciate the ongoing support for Computrainer, I will be keeping on riding on as long as Zwift lets me.

Cheers!

Hello to all, I will need some help as my computer skills are limited (my english to  ) Zwift support answer me to download the 2.12.36.4 driver file to replace the new one resulting of the last Windows 11 update. I’ve been able to locate the drivers in the Device Manager. I checked the USB Serial Converter details and the option to go back to a previous version is enable (grey shade) so not possible that way. From there I really don’t know what to do. Thanks for your help.

Hello all,

From the investigation at HQ and the results from Zwifters in this thread, we can confidently say the issue in this thread was due to an external change regarding the driver firmware for Computrainer owners’ USB to Serial converter devices. There are still some Zwifters out there working to get their Computrainer setup back up and running, so I wanted to combine the helpful posts from @Jaret_Johnson, @Will_I_Am_Adams, @IL_LAMPO_B_B, and @John_Chaki to hopefully provide a comment that can be marked as the visible solution for this issue.

  1. Navigate to Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT) > [Device connecting your Computrainer to your computer] (It may have a name like “USB Serial Port”).
  2. Right-click the device, then select Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver to attempt to revert to a previous version.
    1. If you’re able to revert to a previous driver, confirm the driver version is 2.12.36.4
    2. If you are not able to revert your driver, please continue to step 3.
  3. Navigate to FTDIchip.com to locate the relevant FTDI usb VCP driver for your USB to Serial converter device.
  4. Download driver 2.12.36.4 or 2.12.36.4U from the respective link.
  5. Extract the downloaded driver to a convenient location on your computer.
  6. Navigate back to Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT) > [USB to Serial converter device connecting your Computrainer to your computer]
  7. Follow Microsoft’s guidance to manually update the driver version for this device to 2.12.36.4
  • Note: you may need to locate your USB to Serial device in another location as well (e.g. Universal Serial Bus controllers) to make sure the driver is installed properly.

Once you’re back on 2.12.36.4, your Computrainer setup should be back to broadcasting its signal when connected to your PC.

Although these trainers are still compatible with Zwift, please note there is no longer official manufacturer support. As future changes that are outside of Zwift’s control occur via Windows, MacOS, or driver updates, some legacy devices may lose their ability to broadcast to Zwift as we saw in this case. Ultimately, this may lead to a conflict between best practices- where Zwift might recommend updating to the latest available driver, firmware, or OS version for the latest security and feature upgrades, but older devices may not actually be supported by their manufacturer in those respective updates. As a result, you may need to remain on, or roll back to, no longer-supported driver versions to continue to use your Computrainer. Please note that Zwift can’t guarantee the security of these older driver versions.

Thank you everyone for your patience and for helping the community find the resolution for this issue.

Edit: Provided link to driver download page and clarified risks of using older driver versions on some devices.

A big thank you, I finally resolve the issue manually and had to delete the USB Serial Port and the USB serial bus controller.

So, I’ve tried this. The “roll back” option is greyed out, so I followed the guidance for manually updating the driver, but it keeps telling me that “the best driver is already installed.” I’ve tried uninstalling, but it just re-installs the new one automatically. Any suggestions about how to convince it that the best driver for my purpose is NOT already installed??

That’s unfortunate. My only idea is to do a System Restore to a point before the new driver was installed. Windows would update the driver again. Perhaps you could roll back the updated driver this time.

Thanks. I don’t think I know how to do that and it sounds like something I shouldn’t try for fear of making the situation generally worse.

It is also possible to install an older release of Windows 10 or 11. The ISO images are on archive.org, such as:

I read through the forum after sending an email to Customer Support regarding the recent update and the discontinuation of my Compu-Trainer. Based upon the posted comments, the majority of the Compu-Trainer users are legacy users and have been using ZWIFT for over 10 plus years. RacerMate built an outstanding trainer and to force your legacy members off the platform by discontinuing Compu-Trainer is a bad business model for such an exclusive community that is connected through fitness accounts like STRAVA, GARMIN, TRAINING PEAKS, and etc. It would be nice if ZWIFT would post the fix on the ZWIFT site instead of sending personal emails to a select few. Hopefully, I can remain a ZWIFT customer during my upcoming indoor cycling season.

It hasn’t been discontinued. It was broken by a Windows driver update.

So, today, I planned to just ride using the Racermate software with my Computrainer because it seemed to be connecting fine yesterday. Today, it wouldn’t connect. After re-booting and getting the same result, I thought okay, if Racermate won’t connect maybe Zwift will. Yup. It connected today no problem. I did nothing different from yesterday and there was no Zwift update. This make absolutely no sense, but I was Zwifting today and not going to complain. Fingers crossed about next time…

Thank you….This fix has worked for me…

The computer I use for zwift would not update to Win11, so I bought another computer. Now it won’t connect to my computrainer. On the pair device screen, it just keeps searching. Please add me to the list of people who need help.

Note that it cannot find my quarq either, after moving all dongles to the new computer.
