Companion group workout can't return to map view [3.73.2] [SOLVED]

With the latest iOS release of the companion app, I’m seeing a bug where the map view is not available when participating in a group workout.

Usually the workout option in the bottom tool bar toggles between workout and map (depending on which you are seeing) but when I’m in a group workout, it stays as “workout” and thus there is no way to see the map.

This means any user on Apple TV can’t give ride-on’s to other users via the map. See screenshot:

Hi @Nick_dos_Remedios

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. Thanks for the report. We’re looking into it for iOS Companion.

@Nick_dos_Remedios
This issue has been fixed in Companion v 3.73.3 that just released moments ago. Please update in the Apple App Store at your earliest convenience.

Yes, I see the update.

Wow, I’m extremely impressed - 2 day turn-around time is amazing. Thank you to the team.

I’m running v3.76.0(2048) and I had this problem today so its not clear to me that it has been resolved. During my working (a custom Trainer Road workout if that makes a difference) I only got the workout view. When the workout ended then I could see the map view. Last year I could see the map view during a workout (I just started using Zwift again for the colder months so I don’t know when this might have changed).

@Jeffrey it sounds like this is a related but separate bug. I reported this issue being in a group workout. It sounds like you are in a regular workout (solo mode). As this thread is marked as “solved”, I’d suggest you create a new thread and link to this one.

During a custom workout (Trainer Road) there is no option to display the map view in the zwift companion app (iPhone). Once the workout ends, map view becomes an option again. During the workout my screen looks something like this:

This is similar to forums-zwift-com/t/companion-group-workout-cant-return-to-map-view-3-73-2-solved/656127 which is tagged with Known Issues zc-3011,zc-3097 but that was during a group workout and is marked solved in an earlier release.

has erg mode ever shown the map? always thought it shows the steps in the workout? rarely ever use erg and never need to look at the companion app

I was in a meetup just yesterday (Nov.18) where we did workouts I added from training peaks and I still cannot access the map when in workout mode inside a meetup. Works every time as a solo rider, but never in meetup mode. I would argue this bug is still needing a fix.

Bug is still there. Companion 3.76.0 (iOS 18.7.2)

Screenshot is from a meetup (with “Keep Everyone Together” ON) and in a workout. After finishing the workout, the companion app returns to the map view. When you then load another workout, you can switch between map view and workout view as usual.

Yes, in the past when I’ve run workouts from Zwift with the trainer in ERG mode/Zwift controlling the resistance (or not), I get the option to view the map.

Interestingly I just checked to see whether that was still true and it is. I also tried a custom/Trainer Road working and surprisingly it worked… the 2nd from the left ‘button’ on the bottom row flips between map and workout depending on which is displayed (eg. exactly what one would want). I’m almost positive this wasn’t the case 2 days ago and I’m not sure why this might have changed. I’ll pay attention tomorrow.

Thank you for the report, and appreciate you sharing the context where it happened.

I’ve spun up a ticket to see if we can reproduce.

Hi,

I have the same issue: map is displayed correctly but when I choose a workout, map disappears and no way to display it again…

Same for me for the third consecutive week doing the Zwift Camp: Build workouts as a group. And I use a laptop projected to my TV not within reach, so no pics via companion app :sad_but_relieved_face:

@shooj Maybe there is a new issue or this has not been fully resolved.

When doing more than 1 activity (aTV Zwift v102), when I start the 2nd activity the MAP (Companion APP) will be blank and I won’t be able to see the route. I have to exit the activity, discard it, close Zwift and start it again for the companion App to restore the MAP.

@Bruno_Fox_TR @Michael_Lee @AlexM370 and others who joined this thread more recently:

We were able to reproduce this bug in a Meetup group workout. If this is the context you’re reporting - we are working on stomping this one too. Watch this thread for news as we get closer to a fix.

That’s not the context I found, meaning Meetup Group Workouts. When I usually hit this issue is when I go for a quick warmup ride (Solo or Robo Pace) then I save the activity, jump back to the Menu and Start another event. Not 100% sure if it also happens when I click the button “Join Event” on my solo rides.

The problem seems to have finally been solved.
