Well, today it took like 5 minutes to start the app and I missed the first 2 minutes of Tour de Zwift. It seems to be taking a lot longer from invoking it to usability, and today it seemed to take a lot longer. I force quit it, restarted and it seemed to take less time, but I’m not sure what it was trying to do. I expected a notice that it needed approval to install something, but nope.
Are other users reporting such lags? It’s sure gotten worse over the past few updates.
Thanks. And Companion was right there, ready to go. I updated both…
Hey everyone, thank you for your reports and continuing to provide details as to what’s working and what isn’t. We’re investigating on our end, but no updates yet on what might be the root cause. I’ll provide updates as we continue making progress.
same issue here. macOS 15 and iPhone to iOS 18.2.1 Companion app does not request permission to connect to local network. Has anyone come up with a solution yet?
Not a Mac user but this is intriguing from a networking perspective.
Given the symptoms and lack of permanent workaround, may I suggest checking System Setting >> Wi-Fi connection >> Details, in particular Private Wi-Fi Address. If it’s set to Rotating, setting it to Fixed at least.
Same issue, cannot connect to game via companion app. no workarounds resolving- removed companion app and reinstalled, restarted phone etc. iPhone os and companion updated prior to stopping working.
Updated to Sequoia 15.2 earlier this week and noticed many applications suddenly asking me for new permissions. Zwift was not one of them but the companion app didn’t work. Found this thread and a complete uninstall and reinstall had it properly prompt for the permission on startup. Companion app connected afterward.
Glad to know a fresh install helped. Can you report back if it stops working again? Some users have had to toggle this every time.
On our end, we continue to look into this. I personally haven’t been able to recreate after a fresh install on my own machine, but we’re looking into different options and many machine combinations to get a proper reproducible use case.
Thanks. Sure thing. I’ve been able to do two more rides since then and the app has worked for both of them. I will report back if it stops working again.
The game runs on Silicon natively, but you are correct that the installer still needs Rosetta. We are going to remove that in the near future.
can a prompt be added w/in Zwift companion to ask for access or some other process as this has been a lengthy challenge.
No, Apple does not provide a way to do this directly. The prompt shows when the application makes a request, which has not changed on our end and is seemingly still working for a lot of users. In my case, I am not able to repro after a fresh install. You can check out Apple’s documentation for this if you’d like to dig into the technical stuff a bit more.
I know it’s not great news since there isn’t a fix yet, we’re still investigating and hoping that a change on our end can make this work consistently again. Have you tried the fresh install procedure yet @Notso_SpeedyChix : Re-Installing Zwift
I will give it another go on the mac mini and do the shut down between remove and reinstall this time (spotted that in another read through of this thread). Reinstalled companion app on the phone today. Will also try companion via an iPad that I can borrow. Will update if any items work (will also grab versions of items involved). Thank you.
We are actively looking into these reported connectivity issues between Zwift Companion and Zwift Game as a high priority, and we’ll post back here as soon as we have any proven workarounds or permanent solutions.
After a looong discussion with Beowulf on the ZwiftInsider club chat, (where he gave a treasure trove of info), it turned out that the Zwift->ZC connectivity issue was (at least for me) a Wifi Router issue. There’s too much info to repeat here, so anybody interested can join the Zwift Insider club and check out the recent chat.
Instead of fiddling around with my home network wifi router to disable certain settings, I dug out an Orbi router I decommissioned last year and set it up in our “Zwift room” for our Zwift computers only.
After running the Orbi setup app, and just using the default settings, Zwift and ZC connect flawlessly even after reboots.
Let’s see how things work going forward, but so far the issue seems to be solved at least for me…
I did a reinstall of Zwift and had the local network popup as well, and that resolved the companion app connection issue as well.
Mac Mini M2.
It’s not a huge deal.
It’s a lot less frustrating than trying to get the companion app to connect in a 45*F pain cave.
