Cog 2 doesn't fit KICKR Core

I have received my zwift ride. My kicker core came with the cog 1 installed. The zwift ride came with the cog 2 upgrade. I took off the cog 1 to upgrade to the cog 2 but it does not fit. Any answers?

Both Cog V1 and V2 fit just like cassettes, so there should be no compatibility issue.

You’re not trying to install Cog plus freehub from one trainer onto a different trainer, are you? Because if so you need to remove the Cog from the freehub before moving it across.

The cog 2 that i received has a bigger diameter. As far as i can see it must be for a different version of kicker core. I have attached photos of the different pieces. The black cog came flitted on the trainer.

Your new cog is installed on a freehub already, presumably not the right freehub for your trainer. Remove the cog from the freehub and install it on the one you already have. You will need a lockring tool and a chain whip, or take it to a bike shop.

Isn’t it the opposite, or am I getting the photos wrong? I thought the photos showed that he has taken off the existing freehub along with the old Cog v1,and the Cog v2 has come standalone so now won’t fit on the trainer because the trainer has no freehub.

Yeah maybe you are right, v1 cog needs to be removed from the freehub, v2 cog installed on that freehub.

Thanks for all your updates. I’m new to the indoor cycling. The cog 2 that i received did not come with a freehub. It came with a clear plastic center. I have watched a zwift video showing it fits onto a larger diameter trainer that had splines. Is it a lot of hassle to remove my freehub from cog 1 and put it onto cog 2? Will the freehub from cog 1 fit cog 2?

It’s not hard. You need a Shimano lockring tool and a chain whip to do it, or take it to any bike shop.

No, you are going to use the freehub which is on your cog v1

I believe that is just holding all the parts of Cog v2 together. You will remove that plastic centre as you fit the cog v2 parts onto the free hub you have removed from your cog v1.

Once you have removed your cog v1 parts from your freehub you will see all those splines on your freehub.

It certainly shouldn’t be. Looks like you have already removed the cog v1 lock ring so the rest of the parts should just pull off the freehub. You might just need a gentle left & right turn to loosen them if the are slightly stuck on through use.

Have a look at this video where the demonstration of taking apart and putting together is simple.

Thank you all. You have been a great help. That’s me sorted and cog 2 now on my trainer. Now to get cycling!!!

Well done for sorting it.

Is it worth the upgrade? I am on the cog1 version and my MTB has a 0mm chainline so I would need the v2 to be adjustable significantly outboard to make it better. Can you tell a big difference in adjustment?

Hi I’m sorry i am unable to help. I am new to the indoor cycling setup and just did the upgrade due to having the v2 cog delivered with my zwift ride. Hopefully someone on here can help you

Hi @Klinton_Silvey, Alejandro here from Zwift!

Keep in mind that, in terms of functionality, you can either use the Zwift Cog V1 or V2, and they will work with your trainer. If you would like to know what are the differences between the V1 and V2, you can check this article about the Zwift Cog comparison.
