Chatless and rider silencing group rides

Zwift messaging during group rides (D rides in particular) has created a culture of sophomoric, hateful bully festivals. I love riding in a group (trying to keep up, competitively participating in sprints), but detest the behaviour that goes on in the messaging. I have tried to use the complaint procedure for flagging this kind of behaviour but nothing ever comes of it. These people become emboldened because there are no repurcussions. I propose having rides where there is no messaging, only riding. Also have rides where people are able to silence (taking away his or her ability to message during that specific ride). Let the offending rider state his case on why he should not have been silenced, instead of the victim asking how to make the harassment end. And finally, having rides where everyone gets to say anything they want with no repurcussions. In the Events calendar, indicate which type of ride this is (chatless, silencing, or sophomoric). This will make everyone happy, and it will in time show you (zwift) how important or unimportant this topic is. I know I have seen many forum posts which expose the bad behaviour that is going on. Why not try to do something about it.

That is not my point. My point is to silence the offending riders so that no other rider in the group may see further messages from that offending rider for the duration of the rest of the ride.

I’m pretty sure if enough people flag them for inappropriate language they do get warned or shadow banned?

Have you approached the group ride leader about it, personally it’s nothing I’ve ever seen in the group rides I’ve done

I’ve seen it on occasion where it was the ride leader who was the offender. Evidently the ride leader had been celebrating quite well the evening before and wasn’t in the best shape - and in a pretty grumpy mood.

Probably should have been organised that someone else took over and let the poor ride leader rest up.

I just quit the event and left it at that.

Usually the group rides have everyone behaving quite respectfully, although there are so many it’s hard to know what happens in all of them.

Of all the group rides I’ve done, the JETT ones are usually the best.

Is that an actual event (run by a club) or just a general robopacer ride? Definitely flag the users for bad language.

Other than that I can suggest much else - I stay away from the group rides these days.

When I was last riding on Zwift, I used to do the Cryo-Gen group rides, great bunch of folk, always had a good laugh, never found a robot paced group that worked for me

This hasn’t been my experience in group rides so I’m left wondering which group you are riding with. If I saw a general problem with the level of chat (not just one specific idiot) or a problem involving the ride leader, I would probably contact the Zwift events team so they can review what happened in a specific ride. The low paced group rides I do such as BMTR, Phoenix Rising, RO4H, Team Valhalla, are generally full of lovely people who tell very bad jokes but are otherwise trying to support everyone in the ride.
