Are you the guy that won B in that race?
that’s my account yeah, with the [SKYWEB] tag
Thanks. I’ve asked for some clarification.
@S_A_Cestria_CC we’ve had your estimated FTP at 247-249w for the last month. Exceptionally close, but does just keep you in B.
with all those other power numbers its an absolute joke he is classed as B rider
This cant be the way forward for people to see the numbers used to place them in Cat.
I was very supportive of the original change, but it seems if the likes of @S_A_Cestria_CC is still classified a B (And no dig at the user, this is completely out of his hands) then the change has been neutered beyond any use as you buckle to complaints from riders who have provided feedback.
Zwift needs to show how the placings are worked out and what peoples numbers are - Otherwise its a guessing game.
Please use the new model properly without safety nets for light riders.
This fudging is as silly as heavier riders like myself asking for light riders to be forced into heavy bikes on hills, while I get switched to say the Aetheos.
Light riders are getting a good deal from the fudged physics, putting out relatively low power on the flat, but getting exaggerated draft to stay in blobs. It’s as if W/Kg is being used instead of pure Watts on flat terrain.
can’t argue with that. however, i think it’s a really good feature, since i personally benefit from it
If comparing to RL then that simply isn’t the case otherwise light riders like say a Contador or Quintana would regularly get dropped in flat stages when drafting instead of being able to soft-pedal quite regularly.
Which I said we’d do.
Yet in Zwift I see 12 year olds keep up with the blob. Don’t see that in real life…
Your example also does not hold as difference in watts is not that large. A12 year old would not be able to keep up as absolute watts is just to low. Seemingly in Zwift they can.
i will argue that in general, for light riders there does need to be one, because without it they just can’t participate but i had in mind women, juniors, and guys with 400w sprints who drink soylent for their 1 meal a day
of course i’m speaking about B, i don’t know about C or D, i see juniors on the results pages of races winning those races by huge margins just by riding away etc… it’s a different issue there
This is simply not the case. In real life the draft effect is significantly stronger than on Zwift. Heavy riders are convinced its skewed against them, lightweight riders the same. Newsflash - it’s not.
The watt floors probably do need some tweaking - maybe down 10w or so. They serve a valid purpose.
I’m a light rider 56kg since Pack Dynamics 3.0 I have felt drafting is harder than previous versions maybe it’s supposed to be more accurate but certainly harder than IRL.
They ride 250km stages. In Zwift races are more like 25km and the speed is much higher on the flat relatively. I guess Quintana would get dropped if the sprinters started the race with a sprint and pushed hard on the flat (given a normal flatish course). In Zwift we don’t have a team to help in races like they have. Zwift is mostly every man for himself.
tom pidcock at the british national circuit (criterium) champs, age 16, i wanna say 2016 or 2017, maybe both seeing as he won it twice … probably the most impressive thing i’ve ever seen a cyclist do, i think the official live stream is available on youtube although i’m not sure if it’s geoblocked. well, it’s not really relevant to zwift though.
They would then get dropped in the run in to the finish of a flat sprint stage where the sprinters teams train are essentially close to sprint speed for the last 2-3km (very few stages in modern tours are 250km anyway, that’s more classic territory)
The one place in RL where being big (by pro standard) is helpful is cobbles.
Any word on how category enforcement is progressing?
I raced a C cat race today. I was very surprised it let me enter, I guess my lack of Zwift racing has meant I have been downgraded to C grade. I also noticed nothing seems to have been done to combat the issue with Jnr riders.
Take a look at the C grade race results. I’d be interested to know if this Jnr rider issue is on the radar?
We’ve been working on allowing CE for women’s only events. We haven’t done anything about superlights yet. I also don’t know if we plan to but that’s a conversation for another day not called Sunday
Just a heads up that Women’s Only CE has been built and is currently going through QA.
