A bunch of “complaints” about the fast starts in Zwift races. I used to think it was a strange way to start a race. Now I just see it as the first attack.
At least you know when that one is coming.

No, i was a cat B, but at the very top. My real life and Zwift power are the same and my ftp is under 250w. You mat not like it, but that makes me a B in the old system, and really not a cruiser because this is with maximum efforts.
Like a real life ventoux time trial… I get the same numbers on the ventoux irl. So no cruising.
I honestly wouldn’t race if more than 50% were like that. I would try to get fitter before any racing.
And I really don’t understand people not going 100% into a race.
For me it is not possible without giving everything, even just for not being the last one.
But if I was always in the last I wouldn’t stay motivated.
In any system it won’t be like that for me, as I know I can win in long climbs or at least have a chance to be in the first 25% …
The truth is, I just can’t work out what your point is, because it’s surrounded by so many… words. I’m probably just not smart enough to digest it, but I’m not spending 3 hours doing an A-level English literature dissection of The Handmaid’s Tale just to conclude that you think there should be 5 categories instead of 4.
It increasingly appears that he feels the entire user base of zwift exists to provide him with reasonably challenging but ultimately beatable cannon-fodder in pretend races that are set up specifically for him to win.
OK then, forget the cruiser comment. Let’s get to the crux of the issue.
Do you think that 20m power is a better way to categorise riders than CP, taking in to account the whole power curve?
What do you think is broken in the new system, other than that finishing in the front pack of a really tough sprinter-dominated Paris race felt really hard?
Fair play man, you keep on doing what you are doing - was just some friendly advice to consider brevity if you feel like you’re being ignored.
I think the 20 minutes wkg work on climbing courses, the 1 to 5 minutes wkg on normal rolling courses and the raw 30s watts and 15s wkg on flat courses.
With these three different types of power you could make it fair for everyone
And it would even be worse for me (A for climbing courses and rolling courses, maybe B for flat) but would be fair and fun.
he is probably a legitimate victim of the 5 min flaw. i can race in A at 55kg and get a useful training session out of it, but my ftp is probably 25w higher and my 5min is north of 6wkg
Got to say, this thread has been hilarious today. ![]()
@xflintx and @James_Zwift, please consider the feedback from the C and D racers as the golden source here.
Yes could well be looking at ZP, and still doesn’t have a leg to stand on when he beat me and I emptied the tank!
well to be honest james with double draft i think bunch finishes are basically a lottery for most. but i really hate double draft races beyond all rational thought so i won’t try to argue about that
I didn’t realise double draft wasn’t the default. I remember it being switched on for most races to great fanfare a few years ago.
i like it in steady endurance rides… it has it’s place. but i think all this “you can keep with an A+ rider” stuff is a bit misleading. probably half of the actual B field could have
And it was switched back off again when most people seemed to dislike it.
Thanks that’s exactly what I meant : this test is totally screwed up
Perhaps you have a valid issue with the watt floor not existing for lightweight riders, which is likely to be resolved soon. In that case, your performance was still spectacular considering the course and level of riders (plenty of A+).
we’ve moved from 20m power with no pen enforcement, to a full power curve with pen enforcement.
The test is not totally screwed up - it worked exactly as hoped. Why not give a few more a go.
In fact I just discovered there is a topic about the categories. I should have posted there, and in fact this lightweight problem is being discussed there.
Basically you want a system that analyses your data and puts you in the correct category for the course. And by ‘correct category’ it’s one you can win. Because before you’d drop a category or manage your efforts to not move up.
Ridiculous really. Like if Cav moaned he didn’t win Alpe D’Huez after winning a sprint stage the day before.
I think this invalidate the need for a watt floor. This was a flat race probably the worst situation for a light rider and he finished with the front group. What would have happened if there was 2 big climbs, he would have been on the podium.
@Cyrus_Macaigne sorry for using you as an example. I do it with all the respect.
