Launched Zwift. It automatically updated, then after selecting a route, all I get is a screen showing a hilly road (from the side) with a butterfly. No riders, no me.
I tried all the bug fixes I could find, even uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Same issue.
I did manage to cancel my subscription, and will re-up when the bugs get fixed.
If you want advice about things to try, post some details about what you run it on. Or you can contact support for help. The forum is your fellow users trying to answer your questions but you do have the option to ask for support.
It’s okay, I switched over to Rouvy. ![]()
It’s sounds like there is an issue with your setup, not a bug with Zwift. If there was a bug like this it would be blowing up the forum. But, as things stand, I only see you reporting this, which would indicate some issue specific to you.
That sounds like the screen we used to get when the calendar monthly free 25Km trial had expired and you try to start a new Zwift session.
The 25Km free every calendar month ended a few weeks ago, at the end of July 2025 iirc.
You now must have a paid subscription to ride in Zwift, unless you have activated a trial code issued to you via email from Zwift.
Shuji at Zwift HQ here. The report of a world with nobody in it except butterflies is a symptom I’ve not heard before. I dug a little bit and reproduced your steps. This has nothing to do with the latest game release - it’s a lapsed subscription.
By any chance - do you recall seeing this prompt about renewing your subscription on the Home Screen?
You may not be aware, but as of August 1, we discontinued our 25 km a month free trial offer. That means you will no longer be able to ride in Zwift without an active subscription. Running in Zwift is still free, as before
We’re working on delivering clearer messaging for lapsed subscribers. Your feedback has been passed to the team working on it.
Had the same issue, thanks this is the answer I was looing for. It could be helpful if Zwift makes this more clear in the game, because I’ve kept trying different worlds and keep running into the same problem.
Thanx for not notifying us. It did cost me 2 days, 5 reinstalls, complete trainer reinstall and finally an reverse image search on the screenshot to get to this topic.
Can you make this more clear to the users who start cycling indoors again this fall. We do check our setup in the free 25kms before signing up again.
Thanx a lot
