Bluetooth connections break when entering event pen from a ride

Three times in 24 hours since Wednesday 15th October from approx 16.20 BST.

First time, clicking join event from Makuri after completing free ride of the new route. to go into pen in Watopia. Disconnected message appeared in top left of screen, and then trainer wouldn’t reconnect/re-pair, didnt appear in list, although assiomas were now there. Hrm and play controllers also gone. Couldn’t reconnect, and even reboot didn’t fix. Rode event using single assioma (the only device that could be seen). As I was supposed to be leading the ride, there was a certain urgency in trying to fix this so I could at least join the event with some power connection. It didn’t appear to find the trainer even through Bluetooth from the android companion app. That pairing method seemed broken completely.

Windows AMD integrated graphics, 16gb.

Loss of Bluetooth has happened again twice Thursday 16th October, each time whilst free riding prior to a TTT. Clicking Join Event put avatar into the pen, but then the power, heart rate and cadence numbers came up as –, greyed. Going to pairing screen showed nothing connected.

Each time on Thursday I’d gone into the pen early enough in case of a problem to be able to restart the laptop, zwift and 30sec power cycle the trainer before the event (team time trial) began. 2 out of 4 times going into the pen from a warm up today I saw the issue.

Trying to figure out what could have changed. No new devices, connections locally.

(I did notice a new white block square in the UI next to the volcano time, but I see this is mentioned in another post.)

Any hints as to what logging/configs I could look for please?

Thank you.

I have seen the disconnect message on the odd occasion, the reconnect was automatic, I just kept riding.

Sounds like you are trying to run it on a laptop ? Got to be honest I have a 16Gb Hp Pavilion Gaming laptop but it has a dedicated graphics GTX 1650 but after testing it recently I wouldn’t be in a rush to try and use it for Zwift full time, its my emergency go to option in case the PC blows up. Most of the problems people are having is simply down to insufficient hardware spec. Integrated graphics ? probably not the best.

This laptop has been running zwift perfectly almost a year, it was bought because of the time it took to fix …

Plenty of people suffered with this bug before it was fixed 4 months later. (I have tried to put the link in)

I’m currently using a 16GB AMD ryzen 7.

You could have a look at your Zwift logfile for starters, and/or upload it to zwiftalizer.com

The Zwift logfile tends to be quite voluminous though, so it can be tricky to spot real errors in it. It might give you some clues, but it sounds to me like you should submit it to Zwift support via a conversation with them.

Thank you, I’ve found a log file some interestings so I’ll send it in.

Your hardware sounds adequate, though many Windows users find that their built-in Bluetooth adapter is inadequate and end up disabling it, using a USB dongle such as the TP-Link UB500. It is helpful to have something like that on hand to troubleshoot, and they are not expensive.

I would be interested to know how busy the CPU is when you are experiencing problems, but you need to be looking at the utilization of the single CPU core that Zwift uses. For example, an 8 core CPU with 12.5% average utilization may be using 100% of the only core used by Zwift, which results in all kinds of problems.

You can also disable the Video Screenshots feature in Zwift to reclaim a little bit of the CPU.

Since you found a log file, I recommend uploading it to zwiftalizer.com to see what the frame rates are like. If frame rates tank when you experience the problem, that would be an indication that you are CPU bound.

Good idea! Zwiftalyzer.
It’s not doing video screenshots.
Not doing one drive in the background. Wednesday may have been due to windows update downloading in the background, but that can’t also be Thursdays problem.
I’ve used external bluetooth adapters but the internal is more reliable/quicker at connecting. Never had connection die before. Bluetooth far better than Ant.
Each time after the connection went I could rescan and see the assiomas (eventually),
But no direto.
I needed to get onto the pen quickly on each of these times so couldn’t investigate much at the time.
