Bluetooth aggressiveness affecting audio

I use Bluetooth Audio in Windows (Bose QCII earphones). Recently, I have been getting a lot of dropouts and in troubleshooting, I replaced the Bluetooth dongle on the PC, moved it closer to me, uninstalled/resinstalled drivers. Nothing makes any difference. It’s specifically worse when running Zwift - so I am wondering if a recent Zwift update has cranked up the scanning aggressiveness which puts a lot of extra Bluetooth traffic in the air and thus impacts my audio.
If so, I can only assume this is done to reduce drop outs but it seems really aggressive.
Anyone else having challenges like this? I have tried different earphones too, so by process of elimination it appears to be Zwift itself causing these audio dropouts.
There were no Windows updates applied since I turned that off due to the forced restarting on my PC. The only thing that has changed recently is the Zwift version.
