Please modify the system so that if your racing score changes enough to change your category for an event, it automatically registers you for that new category.
Ex. I was racing in the Zwift Insider tiny races today, register is the Cat E for all for races. After getting a top 5 finish in the first three races my score increased enough that I got bumped out of Cat E to D. This Cat change caused me to be unregistered for the 4th race.
Which caused a mad scramble because I didn’t know any of this until I after I did a short cool down from the 3rd race and tried to join the 4th race. And as people know with the tiny races, there’s usually only about 5 mins between them to rest. So after doing a short cool down, I’ve got under three mins until the next race starts. I try to join, get a message saying my scores gone up and I can’t ride in Cat E for the fourth race and get kicked out to the log-in screen on my Android tablet. So I’m madly scrambling to get all of my sensors to connect so I can get back in game. Heart rate monitor is being a pain and won’t connect, less than a minute to go, give up on that, and join the game. Find the 4th race for the Tiny races, select, scroll down to Cat D, register, join the race and pray for a fast load in. Load in and hear the tones for the 10s countdown to start already going and my heart rate monitor still isn’t connected. Race starts, I pedal like mad and creep out of the starting pen, look up and realize because the system considered this a “fresh” join/start, I’m in the generic low starting gear, not the higher gears from the end of the last race that I should be in. Madly switch gears as I’m getting left behind by the stronger Cat D pack. Then I start futzing with the game to try and get my heart rate monitor to work, luckily it connects pretty quickly and I’m back to focusing on the race. But by this time, I’m back in 50th place and like 30s+ behind the leaders with no hope of catching up, so race is ruined.
In cases like this, why can’t the system just automatically change my registration from Cat E to Cat D and give me a pop up saying “Your racing score has increased from the last race, you’ve been bumped up a category” with a stay / leave button option?? It can obviously give me a pop-up telling me my scores changed and kick me out of the event. I registered for the race, so I obviously want to race it, I would say better than 75% of the time, people will just go ahead and race in the higher Cat. If I don’t want to race in the higher Cat, fine, that’s what the leave button is for. But PLEASE don’t make life complicated for users in what could be a time sensitive situation.
So please, update the system so it can account for racing score changes up or down and pre-move riders to the new, appropriate CAT automatically with a pop up message if a move does occur and the option to stay or leave the event in the message.
Kicking someone out of the event with just a notice and no choice is a negative, reactive outcome that users will always receive in negative terms. Automatically moving them or giving them to choice to move up a Cat or leave is a positive, proactive outcome which users will receive positively.
