Yes XP, badges it’s why I do the climb of the week not because I particularly enjoy it. Anyway as I said elsewhere I cancelled my automatic annual renewal but I am open to resubscribing again when we see a significant expansions in Watopia, Makuri and Scotland or a significant update in in graphics and scenery, easter eggs in the other worlds and/or a custom route creator
Perhaps. It’s up to Zwift to decide which direction they decide to bring Zwift to but it’s up to me to decide if I want to resubscribe
Here’s the reddit thread btw
But when that is suggested, people come along and say they don’t want updated graphics or scenery, or they even prefer portals with generic graphics. But heaven forbid if their detailed bike shadows go missing!!! That’s an emergency.
The Innsbruck climb is a quite fun one.
The graphics as is are fine, Watopia has interesting road side with lots of different vegetation and other things to see but eg London and Innsbruck have dreadfully boring untextured spreads of green
Innsbruck looks flat and one dimensional
Watopia looks three dimensional
That’s because it hasn’t been updated much if at all since release. It’s pretty old.
Watopia used to look a lot worse as well but it got updates. Compare the way it used to look versus now.
Expanding Innsbruck with new roads out and around the extended areas of Innsbruck would help a lot, especially with the associated graphics tweaks:
A mega pretzel route for Innsbruck:
A short climbing route:
A loop towards Brenner:
Then getting more ambitious, you could eventually expand the world down to Sterzing:
With Kühtai Sattel and and Timmelsjoch, a couple of the very famous climbs which both have pretty awesome views in real life. Just look at the media:
Imagine if the routes in Zwift looked like that. ![]()
Like I said I do not want Zwift to include real life climbs I haven’t done before. I want to experience those irl and not have the surprise spoiled by having them done virtually first. It is a major reason why I switched from Rouvy to Zwift.
So what about portal climbs that just got put in there anyway?
Nobody says you have to actually ride what is in an application. And what about the other people who actually might like these real world climbs in a cycling application?
I you like “realism” than there are other apps. There are many people that like Zwift because it doesn’t try to pretend to be realistic.
Zwift should focus on what it is good at, providing a whacky phantasy world to ride/race around in, not try to be realistic representation of the real world nor try to be my coach
(Ps Fortunately I climbed Alpe d’Huez irl twice before joining zwift and have no desire to climb Ventoux but I would skip eg col de la Madeleine even if we got like 2000xp bonus)
The feedback from locals is often that they’re nothing like the real thing. That’s certainly the case with Norton Summit. Riding that on zwift won’t spoil anything about the irl experience.
I knew that already, the elevation data is usually very unrealistic (for a lot of the overseas ones I already rode).
Oh well, I guess we can park any future climb requests like the ones for the other sides of Alpe D’huez. Sad.
And no Australia or Dubai like worlds either.
I like the London routes and there are often quite a lot of people riding there if it is available. The small worlds like Innsbruck, Paris, Yorkshire, Bologna TT and Crit city are not very popular. I don’t use them. Paris should be moved to France.
