7-Speed Cassette Compatibility on Smart Trainers

(Pete C) #1

I’ve been using a Classic Trainer for a while and am now in the market for a Smart Trainer.

The bike I’ve been using is an old 21 speed (3x7) Dawes Touring bike which has been working fine. Ideally I’d like to continue using it and not have to either buy another bike just for the trainer or keep switching out my main bike.

I would prefer a wheel-off trainer.

From what I can tell, the Wahoo Kickr is compatible with a 7-speed cassette, but the Tacx Neo only works with 10 & 11 speed and the Elite Drivo 9, 10 & 11.

Does anybody have any experience of using an older bike on one of these trainers?

Thanks.
