2x Connection Issue

Please help.

Hi there,

I was Zwifting on my bike the other night, connected through my laptop, when my wife wanted to use Zwift on the treadmill. She connected using her iPad — the same iPad she normally uses when riding the bike.

As soon as she turned on the iPad and started connecting, my setup lost all connection, and I had to reconnect. Thankfully, it wasn’t during a race!

Is there a way to prevent one Zwift connection from dropping when another nearby device tries to connect?

Thanks for any help or advice!

Hi @Andrew_Jackson9

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I see you opened a support ticket that was picked up by an AI agent. Please stand by for a human tech to reply. We’ll want to ask about your wife’s account, and for obvious reasons we don’t handle that on this public forum.

For what it’s worth at our labs in HQ, we have many trainers and treadmills in the same space and don’t have issues connecting them. I would suggest you simplify some of the complicating factors I see in your logs. (I can’t see your wife’s details because I have no idea who she is)

1 - I see you have an ANT+ dongle plugged in to your PC. Unplug that please to force everything to pair over Bluetooth. Unless you have an old Garmin heart rate monitor that broadcasts over ANT only, that dongle has no benefit and can only create problems for people who use virtual shifting on their trainers.

2 - Be sure you’re logged out of Zwift. On a PC/Mac - open Windows Explorer / Mac Finder and go to the Documents\Zwift folder. Look for a file called knowndevices.xml and delete it. This stores what devices you’
3. Launch Zwift and pair your devices OVER BLUETOOTH in this order:

  • Power Source
  • Resistance
  • Control
  • Cadence
  • Heart Rate Monitor (if using).
  1. Do a short ride, then save and exit Zwift. A new knowndevices.xml file will be saved.

Mobile operating systems are a lot more locked down, so you can’t delete a system file like knowndevices.xml. On your wife’s iPad - the way to do that is to uninstall the Zwift app, and reinstall.

  1. She should also do the same pairing operation with her trainer (do you both have your own? You didn’t say), and save.
  2. Switch to Run, and pair to the treadmil, and save after a short run.

At this point, both of your computers will have a clean slate of things that they’ve been paired to, and only those things should be remembered. Does that solve it?
